Looking for compact live mixer - max budget £300

What's wrong with Soundcraft?

They have a good reputation according to everyone I've asked.

I wasn't too sure about Soundcraft after hearing a guy in a second hand music shop making disparaging remarks about their mixers.

May have been a one off? :hmm:

I got the spec bit, but what's 'riders'?

From my POV is the technical spec for a show. (from a bands POV it's how many cans of beer and naked lovlies they'll be supplied with in their dressing room and so on)

Beforehand I'll work with a production company/promoter and work out what it is they want to do, and from that I'll draw up a list of kit required to do it, from desk to amps, speakers, backline etc

That kit will then be supplied by a hire company and I'll turn up and plug it all in :)

What I have to deal with every day....

Usaully some head in the clouds wish-list that I then proceed to chop back to down-to-earth normality!

But some are v.funny...Google Iggy Pop`s rider if you want a laugh.

.p.

Just a quick update to say I'm getting on a treat with the Soundcraft MPM 12/2 mixer with Alwsis midiverb combo. It sounds terrific!

Thanks again to all for their help and advice.

Have to say that the PA sounded fucking awesome on Friday night at the Albert - and it was as loud as fuck.

I'm now running two monitor mixes and have got my head around adding basic reverb/echo through the Alesis and hopefully are done spending for a while.

I guess the next expenditure will be another mic (I'll post on the other thread about that) and a couple of tough mic stands and some lights.

I could have maybe used a compressor/gate to control the BD a bit but it wasn't that bad.

If by chance £100 was to fall into my pocket, would would you guys suggest as the next investment?

An SM58 (or maybe a 57) and a decent stand for it. You can never have enough.

Or if you want a compressor/gate a DBX 266XL would do the job - they're cheap but do a pretty decent job for the money.
