Long Gap in CV

assuming they do ask (and not all places would if you are right for the job in all other respects ) you could just look glum and say in was a family matter.. and leave it at that.. they'd have to be pretty hardnosed to ask any more than that.

although don't whatever you do kill off an elderly relative in this story.. you'll need all your grannies and granddads alive for emergency time off once you're working :)

Yup. Talking about prejudiced companies I remember working as a driver and I always got the black drivers mate on the grounds that nobody wanted a non white person working with them. Thankfully I only worked there for a mercifully short time.

I got this whilst temping in a shit warehouse job. It was all good as he was far more interesting and entertaining then any other people there, confessed to me he was an illegal immigrant working under false papers and told me lots of cool stuff about kenya.

As some of you may know I had a major alcohol problem for a while and I have been out of work since September. I have been to detox and I am now fit as a fiddle and itching to get back to work.

However, on my CV what is the best way to explain the gap from September to now? "Travelling" would ring alarm bells, no?

i spent a lot longer than that out of full time employment and i explain it away these days as spending that time as a property developer.
everyone's been quite impressed and asked no more questions.

.....best answer yet - I didn't work for about six months a couple of years ago because we were caring for a dying relative.
I have a gap in my portfolio, which clients want to know about and I used your answer. They don't probe any deeper.
