Phone up BHF and beg?

Or just try to blag your way on once you're down there I suppose.

Or, hey, it's only 54 miles back to London again.

Depends where you are all going back to in London, but as you won't be able to get on trains at Brighton, you could try going to London Road Station, Preston Park Station or Hove Station & getting a train from those.... Have a look at streetmap ... those stations aren't far from B'ton and all have trains to London (though might b less frequent)
Also... Hove Stn might have the Virgin trains going into Brighton - the u are aleady platform side to change trains at Brighton

P

Got my bike serviced yesterday. Bought helmet, inner tube, puncture repair kit. Getting water bottle and cage, wet wipes and suncream today. I also have a pair of special cycling pants, given to me by a friend also doing the ride

What else do I need? Chocolate/cereal bars, stuff like that I suppose. Vaseline. Any other tips from anyone?

Smile and wave as you wizz through the village. I shall be outside my local with a pint :D

It's gonna be a hot and sunny one- take it easy and enjoy!

Was at the start this morning to see a mate of mine off on his journey sarf. 27,000 cyclists, fucking awesome to see.

Felt sorry for the poor girl who walked past us. She'd come way to take part in the ride, only for her chain to snap just before the start!

that was so ace!

I'm definately doing it next year, it was awesome. Really good camaderie from all the riders, although there were basically too many people there, and there were quite a few points where it was bikes as far as I could see and we were crawling.

Hope it went well - I was driving through London in the opposite direction to the cyclists, awesome to see so many taking over the road

Makes me want to get a bike.

My friend is training for an Alpine race at the moment and was doing London-Brighton in the morning and then planned to cycle back afterwards, and then do another 50 miles later in the day!

I'm doing it next year. Amazing the type of stuff you find yourself roped into after a two minute text conversation ;)

How do you sign up to do it next year? I looked at the BHF website, but there doesn't seem to be any way to join up yet for 2007?

Clicky

That gets you to the sponsorship page, and I think it's a case of waiting until the BHF list the 2007 event on their site.

Unless someone knows different?

Ah.. just found this:

7. Is there a closing date for applications?
Places for the Ride are first-come, first-served. The opening date for registrations is 1 March and once the places are completely filled, the Ride will close.

But a few people on here say they are signed up to do it next year... is that just planning to do it, or is there some way to get early registration?

"Additionally, if you are accepted onto the Ride, raise over £100 and send in your sponsorship by 30 November 2006, you will qualify for a Priority entry for the 2007 Ride."

(I'm guessing that's it?)

You dont need to register before-hand for the bike ride, as they have a late entry tent at clapham commons start point. You can pay the entrance fee the very same day... They say every year that it is going to be the last year they have late registration, but really they make to much cash from late entrys..So just turn up pay & ride.. spend an extra £20 quid on the return coach service & be back in london for around 3.00pm. leaving plenty of time for a sunday roast...

Its bloody excellent, & the miles dont matter, its the taking part in a event that helps all people of all ages..

Every one should be able to make the distance, If you cant, then your in some seriously bad shape & should proberly go see the heart foundation for a general service yourself...

That was well wicked, definitely doing it again next year. And amazingly I wasn't even that sore this morning. Even managed to cycle into work no problem.

Cycling together with that many people was an amazing feeling, although it was definitely too crowded at times. At a few points we were at a standstill for 5-10 minutes at a time, but at the worst congestion (Turners Hill, I think it was) there was a brass band to keep us entertained. Which was nice. Speeding down some of the downhills easily made up for any slow progress though.

No problems going up any of the hills...apart from the last one. What a bitch of a place to put a bitch of a hill. I reckon I managed to pedal just over halfway up, but had to walk the rest. Next year, next year...

Wasn't expecting to be cheered on by people down the whole route, and respect to those people flouting the hosepipe ban and providing the odd refreshing shower. There were also many kids with supersoakers, enthusiastically strafing everyone as they went past. Other highpoints: the most delicious pint of shandy I've ever had at about 30 miles in, the pints of proper beer and big plate of chips once we got to Brighton, going faster than I've ever gone on my bike before on the way down into Brighton, racing for the finish line...

So, yeah, loved it. Team urban next year...?

I think they usually open registration the December before, so I shouldn't think anyone is actually registered yet.

I cycled to Brighton with a bunch of friends on Saturday - it was ace - Ditchling Beacon is indeed a bitch - got halfway until I had to get off and push but I still got an enormous sense of achievement considering I've only had my bike a few months and the last time I'd got on a bike before that was 20 years ago.
Getting back was a bitch - the policy about bringing bikes on the train is very inconsistent but we managed to get our bikes on the last train back - it took over two hours though cos of signalling problems.

We're cycling to Oxford next time - apparently it's quite hilly - shit!

Cheers Gordon

Well thanks to Gordon Brown and his ilk. I purchased my brand new shiney Kona Cinder Cone. :D

I haven't ridden since I was a teenager and I'm well out of shape. But I like the sound of Team Urban. So if peeps are up for it, stick my name down!
