Apparently, Philip K Dick was the only American sci-fi author that Lem was interested in.

Unfortunately, wikipedia tells me that...

Dick, however, perhaps due to his mental illness, believed that Stanisław Lem was a false name used by a composite committee operating on orders of the Communist partyto gain control over public opinion, and wrote a letter to the FBI to that effect.

I just read my first Arthur C Clarke novel "Rendezvous with Rama". I loved it, short chapters, easy to do in a sitting, not too long (like a different book I am currently being put off because of its length), well crafted and a pleasure to read!
