London salary compared to elsewhere

Really? Was it the hats?

Can't say it was threatening, although some of the acts veered towards the extremely shit. I think a trannie with a table was a particular low point.

It was the sudden discovery of a whole new subculture I was previously unaware of - a whole bunch of beautiful people much younger than me dressed brilliantly in vintage clothing and jiving expertly to 40s swing music. I was alarmed and panicked.
ETA I guess that illustrates how varied and intriguing London life can be though.

shurrup dill you have loads of sofas you could surf in London :D

The urban ladies lurve you

oooo you reckon?

that changes everything.

I would feel a bit rude doing too much sofa-surfing though. I feel rude enough when I overstay my welcome if I go round to somebodies house for a cup of tea.

I might come down again pretty soon. I PM'd somebody about a houseshare thingy anyway, and need to go and meet up with some people.

This could all happen pretty quickly, tbh.

It is still really scary though.

Oh, I came to terms with that feeling of oldness years ago.

I like to mingle like the tramp at the party at everything from premiere starfuck nights to burlesque clubs. Advantage of London that.

Bethnal Green Working Mens? It's wicked mate, I love that place though the glass collecter is a dodgy perv :D

Argh.

I just want to say it again. I can afford maybe a months rent, on top of initial costs and everything. I would really need to find a job fast, and I have very little experience, my CV is a bit rubbish. I don't want to be unemployed in a place where I cant afford it.

Argh!

just total ARGH.

I've got a spare box room packed full of boxes and with an exposed itchy, but non lethal, asbestos tiled floor.

I can probably squeeze some bunks in there and work you for peanuts like a gangmaster.

If you can find a job paying £22k, you should be able to survive very nicely. If you are good at flirting and have no shame, then your alcohol costs are zilch, cos you can milk the wanker bankers dry... :p
Electrogirl is VERY good at flirting and has no shame.

;)

I dont know about London salaries but I am on £8500 working part time for a data company in South Manchester. I pay £330 in rent/bills about £55 in food, £50 in monthly travel costs and £42 for my gym (I know the gym sounds extortionate but me and my partner are both members, we go together, so its hard to get out of) so that leaves me with about £20 to my name !!! I dont know what to do at the moment. I was looking into doing academic research starting off with a part time MA which would be about £1500/year. I don't really know what to do. My partner is a journalist by trade, he runs his own TV and radio production company. At the moment I feel like the worlds biggest under achiever. I haven't got a career, I'm not doing anything I enjoy and I don't have any money to enjoy things. If I didn't have a boyfriend I would feel like my life is pretty shit. Sometimes I feel a bit limited by having a boyfriend. I feel like If I didn't have a boyfriend I'd run off to London to be an artist or something.

Isn't it 5k that is the difference between a key worker's salary in London and outside of London?

Police, teachers, nurses and other peeps like that. Considering that will probably take into account the costs of family life - kids and all their paraphenilia - you can probably cut that difference by half.

So looking at any given salary you can live on anywhere else, add 2.5k to it and hey presto that's your London wad. As far as my bullshit maths estimates go anyway...
