London salary compared to elsewhere

My definition of a rich person these days is someone who can afford to buy a house.

God, housebuying is something I can't even fathom.

So, taking in all your advice, and THANKS!:cool:It's basically a dilemma of being sensible and patient, or just jumping in and seeing what happens.

Oh and Orang Utan. I want your job. It sounds cool. Can i Have it?

Yes? Brilliant thanks then bye.

I think it's just quite an overwhelming concept for someone that's never lived in London. I wouldn't even know where to start loking for somewhere to live, my friends live in Seven Sisters, and I'd like to be near them.

My job isn't cool, but I need it, so sorry, no :p

It is definitely overwhelming. There is so much I just don't know. I don't even have lots of work experience. It is not the best time to be looking for jobs, either.

Actually, it all frightens me a bit.

Some people would say that about Bristol if they didn't live in the quaint bit of Clifton.

Even on the outskirts of there are some cracking stand alone parts of London that boast the facilities of a smaller town with plenty more a short journey away. London's a massive place, with all the advantages and potential disadvantages that brings.

You can get some cheap places round Tottenham/Seven SIsters, have you evere been there though? And have your friends ever been mugged?

Me too! Shall we hold hands?:D

I think it will always be scary. It's the juggling getting a job/finding somewhere to live and roughly getting them at the same time that scares me. I don't want to be in London out of work for long, but I also don't want to get a job and then have nowhere to live.

Heh I have been there yeah. It seems, well, not that nice.:D

But they're thinking of further along that area to a more up and coming bit, I can't remember which one they said.

They used to live aorund bethnal green which seemed pretty cool.

Bethnal Green's alright and decent for travel. Some good stuff on the backstreets, including a burlesque tea party in a working men's club.

It is getting both of them at the same time that is difficult. I think I can get the housing sorted maybe, but it is the finding the job I am worried about. I am applying like crazy right now but I am not feeling that confident about getting any of them. I don't know if I can really afford to live on the dole for very long.

:hmm:

Butchers went tto London for the Anarchist bookfair, and on the way to Top Dog's house in a taxi they had to drive through a gang of people standing in the road with machetes.

I think OU's job is cool. It is pretty much what I want to be doing myself. In fact he is partially my inspiration.

It really isn't - it would be 'cool' to work in a public library with BOOKS, not shitty programmes like Gilmore Girls and the Ghost Whisperer

I think I need to be down there so I can get to interviews easily. I don't want to have to be travelling up and down all the time just for a 1-2 hour interview.

:hmm:

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

To be honest guys, if you can get a role in any area that interests you now take it wherever it is. It'll be easier to move with a little bit of experience under your belt, especially in these shrinking times.

This is it exactly.

I might just keep applying for jobs, and if I get one, do a mix of commuting from my sister's in Ashford, and sleeping on friend's sofas until I find something.

I went to something like that in the place you mention - it scared the shit out of me and I had to leave

Really? Was it the hats?

Can't say it was threatening, although some of the acts veered towards the extremely shit. I think a trannie with a table was a particular low point.

You might be better off finding somewhere like Stoke Newington or Hackney. Easy reach of Seven Sisters by the overground, and by bus, but not as shite. I have no idea why anyone chooses to live in Tottenham
