Oxford St should be 100 per cent pedestrianised IMO, there's no need for buses to run the whole way along it, with so many tube stations. It's a dangerous place, taxi drivers are total arseholes as are bus drivers, I have lost count of the number of near misses I have seen.

Completely agree with everything you've said there Stobes.

Some time ago, on a Sunday I think, they completely closed it to traffic and it was a huge success, we went there and enjoyed it so much more than when it was full of taxis and buses. Plus when I came home and cleaned my ears out they were not full of black soot like they are when there's traffic around.

100%. Never see a remotely full bus running down it. Would be interested to hear why Brian Paddick was in favour if he sees this. It sort of pisses against any attempt to encourage walking or cycling if you need a tram running down your relatively short main shopping street. Definitely a politicians idea rather than a planner I think.

And bearing in mind you'd need a depot somewhere, where you a ) get the land and b) how much would all the extra track/pylons needed to get the tram to the depot add to the project? Would they fit under Hyde Park?

SS I'm sure I speak for plenty of cabbies and bus drivers when I say there are a number of people walking on Oxford Street who act as if it's pedestrianised already.
