Well done for the 5k! I'd fall over after a 10 min run.

There's a helpful list in the email I got from Red Pepper this afternoon: festivals at which they'll be represented. Not all are in London.

This year's events include:

17 June
Foo Fighters - Hyde Park, London

21 – 25 June
Wireless Festival - Hyde Park, London

1 – 2 July
Hyde Park Calling

8 July
Rise Festival - Finsbury Park, London

13 – 16 July
Latitude festival – Henham Park estate, Suffolk
New Event – more laid back; art, comedy, music and film.

25 – 27 August
Reading and Leeds Festival

26 – 27 August
Metro Weekender - Clapham Common, London

Made In Deptford - 19th-21st May http://www.madeindeptford.co.uk
Notting Hill Carnival - 27th/28th August

and some Mayor Ken stuff:

Carribbean Showcase - Hyde Park - August Bank Holiday
Trafalgar Square Festival - 3 weeks, August 2006
Big Dance - 15 - 23 July 2006 - Trafalgar Sq

I'm a regular Sat morning visitor to Deptford. There are a load of workshops along Creekside one of which is Cockpit Arts which is doing an open day this weekend so it must all be part of the Made In Deptford weekend and I'd imagine the others will be open too. Think I had to pay a couple quid entrance at their pre-christmas open day - good place to go to look for special one-off prezzies for people, check out studios if you're looking for one, and have a chat to the designers.

As for London free festies. Last year we went to the Walthamstow Festival, a free festival in, ...err, Walthamstow. Several sound systems dotted along what I think was the main shopping drag near the station. Worth checking it out if it's on again this year.

Over in the West, there's all the Ealing festivals:

14-21 July - Comedy Festival. Ticketed event.

22 July - Blues and Roots Festival. FREE! The biggest free one-day blues festival in the UK.

23rd July - Ealing Summer Global. FREE! New event. Music from around the world.

26 - 30 July - Ealing Jazz Festival. FREE! The largest free jazz festival in Europe.

13 August - The London Mela. FREE! The largest one-day celebration of Asian culture outside of the subcontinent.

These events are all good fun, mostly arsing about and listening to music you might not otherwise do. Plus there are lots of fringe jazz-festival things in local pubs.

One day, I'm going to organise The London Pie Festival.

That sounds great

Were you thinking savoury pies, or could you include lemon meringue pie in that?

I went to the Ben & Jerry's festival last year because I found a ticket on the Common and thought I could pop in and get a free ice cream. We were outside playing frisbee at the time. It wasn't much cop... huge queues, low on atmosphere, was very branded. There was lots of stuff for kids, though.

Fair point, I think I did mean free stuff but I didn't say that did I?

Am compiling this into a list in date order. Any more?

<edit> have now done so and added the list to the first post
