London advice

No direct tubes to Leicester Square :D

Seriously what about Highgate? Direct tubes to Leic. Sq., near your mates in Finchley, and direct tube to StP's for going back oop north.

(awaits someone to tell me why this is a crap idea)

Highgate is lovely but very expensive because it's so near the Heath. If your mates are in Finchley and you don't know anyone else in London, you might want to stay north because if you go deep south as some people are recommending, you're never going to see them. The northern line is vile but if you get on really far up the line, you might get a seat

Direct tubes? You are a bit picky. .

I'm not anything- I live 100 miles away :D

Just thought it might make the OPs life easier. And yes,of course it will be very very crowded in rush hour (but I get the impression the OP already knows this)

And yes, north London is generally more expensive than the south (there are plenty of exceptions to this) but while the OP will be on a tight budget at 22k , he won't be on the very tightest.

Stokie isn't really representative of the Hackney borough though, is it?

Dalston, say, isn't exactly rammed with craft shops, jazz joints and smoothie bars? ;)

(but... Hackney is still a good place. For the OP though, Leicester Sq could be an annoying journey.)

106/253 to finsbury park - tube to leicester sq - fairly simple really

stokie is alright - but i would get annoyed living there tbh, all the church st tribes all the time:mad:

I thought you were the OP. Oops

If you don't know too many people in london and you're thinking of using urban as one way to build your social circle than being conveniently placed for Brixton would be useful. :)

Hello people.

I'm moving down to London from Sheffield in a few weeks to start a new job based in Leicester square. Seeing as i know diddley squat about London, which areas would be a good place to live?

I'll be earning around 22k if that helps.

Hello,

I also work in Leicester square and earn a similar wage.

I live in whitechapel in the east end, and it works great for me. If you get yourself a bike you can be in work in about 20 mins from home.

I don't know what you're going to do, but I work in one of the cinemas nearby and if you need some pointers as to cheap places to eat in the area, stuff to do etc, just let me know.
