Don't bother with this one folks, he's got form. That is of being

As right wing as they come.
Yeah, Walworth's got form too.

Just in case you hadn't noticed, Walworth, socialism doesn't work in the real world. That's why most of the world has junked it.

Unlike Capitalism which cannot even provide the basics in the most advanced countries let alone the developing world and continues to put at risk the future of the planet.

but he hasn't wasted his time going on every single thread about the strike with tedious uninformed comments. Have you 'private sector' lot got anything better to do? Sad arsehole :)

You're a bit too young and naive Matt!

I never expect these Labour people to act in a principled way. "Labour leaders break strike" is a headline some of us have been used to seeing over the last few decades. Last time I remember even a modicum of solidarity was Shirley Williams turning up to the Grunwick picket line, 1977 I think - almost a revolutionary act by comparison with today's Labour (and LibDem) leadership. Labour scabbed on the strikes in the "Winter of Discontent" in 1978/9. Kinnock's "grotesque" speech at the Labour Party conference became somewhat ironic when the Labour council in his own backyard in Glamorgan handed out redundancy notices in the same way. And of course he did nothing to support the miners. These people don't know what "solidarity" means.

I'm glad the Greens supported the strike by the way. Well Done!!

Take your point that some Labour Councillors effectively scab by crossing picket lines.

But I know many Labour Councillors that won't cross picket lines and I know of at least one Labour Leader who wrote to all of his councillors telling them not to cross the picket lines today.

As an aside as an FTO working on the strike today I would say overall things were pretty good - a good start and something to build on. Union brnaches up and down the country have got to go and talk to the staff in the areas wherte support where the action was weak - if we can get them on board and signed up then we can make the next day even better.

About 50% out in my building (1200 people work there). About 25-30 on the picket line and people going through looked very shame faced and we told them they should be.

All in all quite positive. In terms of the central rally most of the union leaders gave very boring speeches, and even Mark Serwotka wasn't brilliant. He always talks about setting up a new political alternative, but this platform was a great place for him to bring that up and to talk about breaking from Labour but he said nothing. Also all the union leaders talked about solidarity but seemed quite happy to accept a deal that will sell out the pension rights of future workers. Unfortunately this is a line put in the sand by the PCS settlement and the SP led PCS NC. Although if we get the same deal as the PCS in UNISON it will have come out of a struggle so it will be more positive.

Good to hear the union leaders get some heckling over the lack of a demo and about the Labour link (including from me :D ).

Hopefully more action will be on the way soon.....

AOL poll:

Do you back the striking workers?
votes
Yes 11314 68%
No 5390 32%

Total Votes: 16704

It is not scientific of course.

Serwotka was not going to use the strike rally to break ranks with the likes of UNISON over their labour link. But he did lay into LP and their dodgy funding.

Cockney.. were you chanting with us? You will have seen my green PCS branch banner.

Cheers dennis :)

Said hello to the picket at Walworth Refuse and Recycling Depot (which I pass every morning) today around 8 am, on my way in ( :o )

The strike in THAT sector of Southwark seemed solid, and they had no expectation of picket line crossers (it was early though)

Suppose it helps for them to know, even if only very marginally helping, that a member of the public (random, for all they knew!) supports them.
