Local Elections May 2016

Just got back from the polling station. One woman in front of me had her husband or partner in the booth with her telling her how to vote. Another girl took about five minutes to make her mind up.

Oh, and the couple in front of me couldn't work out which boxes to put which papers in, although they are colour coded.

Agreed. I actually think they'll be the big winners today. I can see Tories losing seats, but that'll be overshadowed by Labour's losses.

Voted late morning, quite a heavy turnout at that time. Struggled to work out which candidate was the least undeserving when it came to a 2nd choice for the GLA.

BTW all three colour coded ballot papers went into the same box.

One for a middle-class liberal party with a shit leader that no one has heard of...and one for Lib Dems.

Whatever. These parties fit my leftist, liberal, enviromentalist criteria. The Tories, Labour and SNP are shameful when it comes to civil liberties and the greens are actually more socialist than the SN(i)Ps, wanting to push through a higher top rate of tax. Hopefully we've reached peak SNP.

Polling station was actually very busy but lots of people just standing around chatting.

Three colour-coded ballot papers for me and three colour-coded boxes to put them in.

Our polling station was actually locked minutes before I arrived, another voter told me. Apparently the caretaker had been an arse, and hadn't allowed the staff to use a wedge to hold the front door open. He removed it and failed to notice the door shutting and locking behind him. Took me mate five minutes to knock the staff up and make them realise what had happened.

My polling station was pretty busy with small queues at 7ish, maybe end of the evening peak. No tellers, which surprised me in the Plaidiest bit of what must be their only chance in the city.

Just the police commissioner elections for me, with the choice of Tory, Labour, Lib Dem, UKIP and, erm, The Zero Tolerance Policing Party.

Greens really going for it here. Door knocking or leafleting our street four times in the last week or so. Compared to a single Labour leaflet and nowt else. Big flurry of last minute posting too. Strolling down past the ships this afternoon "Vote Green Party" posters everywhere.

Quite busy here. Presumably with people voting Tory because that's unfortunately what happens here. Only tellers were ukip and lib dem.

i was torn between PD write in or a hillsborough thing cos its copper elections, so surely the latter. Which is what I went for. Not that anyone will read it, you know 3 am just glancing enough to see its spoiled etc.

but fuckit.

Was busy at the polling place this morning, and even busier post 5pm.

Voted green on the list, and held my nose and voted for the labour candidate on the constituency ballot. She's not going to get in on either vote, and she has a good record on active travel when she was at the council, so fuck it.

What's all this lib Dem shit? I'm ashamed to be sharing the same internet with you.

Its the Lib Dems or spoiling my ballot and I doubt these pricks in this Tory ward would even fucking notice if I spoiled my ballot. Giving the Libs a mighty 0.005% vote towards the Tory total takes a bit of the shine of the Tory DC's bragging.

They're the only party to have made a stand against the snooper's charter. They're one of only two parties to support drug law reform. I never cease to be amazed by how apathetic people are when it comes to civil liberties (though drug law reform has implications way beyond civil liberties).

Well they have been in government, how well did they do on those issues?

So, drug law reform but shitting on people in regards to privatising health care, housing, welfare, education. Civil liberties? you mug.

Lib Dem activists like to point to how great they were on mental health during the coalition years. As if saying 'there should be no stigma about being depressed' now and again outweighs all the people who suffer from mental health problems being thrown off of DLA and the skyrocketing increase in suicides as a result of their austerity politics.

It was so snoozy in my inner London voting booth....

And, as they ticked off my name, I would see I was one of the first in my street to vote, even though it was 3pm.

Well to be fair in JVs case I don't think he is a mug, rather that his selfish, "no such thing as society", individualism actually makes the wanker a good match for the LibDems. Perfect Thatchers child.

Fucking hell, am I the only person (apart from the friend I've just been out with who last voted in 1987) not to vote today?
