Local councils election results thread

actually, tell a lie, these seats weere done in 2007, so less than a 1% gain on that, analysis comin out of the Bristol Greens seems to be that they gave the libdems a fright and made them pull out all the stops

Only a 38 pct overall voting turn out in Chelmsford area , BNP beating labour in a few areas. totally split Tory and Lib , no surprises.

Jerry Hicks vote down decisively in vote and %. Suprised at that.

The BNP picks up almost the same number as he dropped.

I didn't realise his vote was down, shame really he's a really nice bloke and quite passionate about his politics. Perhaps he's attached to the wrong party and should have stood independantly especially in that area.

He's great - exactly the sort of person we need for an independed w'c politics, he's mired in the historical left though.

How are people reading the results so far in terms of how the BNP might do in the Euro elections ?

I've not seen any from lancs or cumbria yet, and no county council elections in east london or thurrock so too early to say, no results in for epping forest but some good results for them in other parts of essex, not enough to get them in in the east, but that wasn't happening anyway

beeb have said that labour have lost overall controll of staffs. stoke's not under the county council any more, and newcastle under lyme isn't in yet, they seem to have done well in cannock chase thogh

If they are able to translate CC election results into Euro votes, they will do well. The probelms is that some voters may well vote UKIP in the Euros and BNP in the CC elections. However, everywhere they are fighting a full CC slate, their vote is up on 2004 in % terms

No BNp wins so far, one very near miss in Warwickshire

One UKIP Gain

1 Gain for SPP in Barrow

In Lincoln, all 77 seats have been declared and Labour, as far as I can see, have a grand total of 4.

Boston Bypass Independents: 1
Independents: 3
Labour: 4
Lincolnshire Independents: 4
Lib Dems: 5
Tories: 60

The city itself was the acid test - 9 of the 10 seats were Labour and the Tories only had one because the councillor crossed the floor.

Labour retook that one from the Tories, held two and lost the rest.

Labour MP Gillian Merron has stated: "The Tories will be disappointed with the result."

Yeah, of course they will.

It's over, face facts.

woot!

north norfolk is in, not got their map to work yet, but looks fairly even between con and ld, could be some gains for the tories there, doesn't look like the greens stood in many seats there as the overall results say 2%

Here are the extremely local results for where I live:

Nuneaton Wem Brook

Banks, Melanie Louise Green 254 11.42%
Deacon, Yvonne Jeanette BNP 493 22.17%
Hammerschmiedt, Andrew Conservative 510 22.93%
Tandy, June Anne Labour 967 43.48%

and a committed Gashead :D

Judging by some remarks I've picked up on from other sites we need a good wc Lefty on the terraces right now. Makes me wish even more he was independant.

would be good to get him involved with GIFT actually

Interestingly the successful BNP candidate in Burnley is already a district councillor; what does this say about the argument that once voters have experienced a BNP representative they won't make the same mistake twice?

The only info people really get about what their councillors are doing "on their behalf" is what the said councillors tell them, for one thing.

Padiham itself is a rather posher 'suburb' of Burnley, not sure about exactly what is in Burnley West, but in general, its the whiter part of town, with slightly better than average wages, housing etc.

the greens have not done very well so far in sussex, beating labour in most of eastbourne, but beaten by UKIP in most wards

hopefully we'll have some gains in lancaster (especially), norwich, lewes and elswhere

I reckon they should take politics off telly, and everyone should get a proper, full manifesto for each candidate through their door and vote from that info alone.

*sigh* As if politics will ever been taken that seriously though. I can't begin to explain how desparately sad and exhausted I am by it all.
