Livingstone Cries While Apologising For Slave Trade

Still projecting, balders? Hey, it's been a while since you began a thread in praise of a dead racist comedian. Haven't you got one to start? :D
But Livingstones not dead yet.

I meant your views that he shouldn't be apologising about it at all much less crying. I just take the view that to break down in tears like that is so cynical a move that I wouldn't have thought he was up to it.

Not without a cut onion in his pocket, anyway.

In case you hadn't noticed, he isn't a comedian by profession either, nor is he a racist. :p

Really? Sorry i must have him mixed up with the wanker who thought it would be a really good idea to have Lee Jasper as his equalities adviser.

I wonder if in a couple of hundred years politicos will be apologising for thing happening now?

To Das Uberdog- well I wasn't trying to build a wall of rhetoric but thanks for the compliment anyway. What actual strategic plan of action?

Good question, I guess- what's yours?

Mine- for what's it's worth- and I'm not putting myself forward as saviour of the world is to take an active part in those strikes and campaigns that do happen, kick start them where possible, build these campaigns to a state where they can win, then we collectively learn the lessons- what worked, what didn't, how we can do it better next time, drawing new people into struggle.

Hardly original and I'm open to new ideas here- fine. Can't quite see the point of your post though uberdog unless you've got some ideas.

If you want some practical things to get involved in I'd say
may be mental health workers' stike Reinstate Karen Reissmann
http://www.permanentrevolution.net/?view=entry&entry=1615 or www.reinstate-karen.org or supportkarenreissmann.googlepages.com
or antideportation campaigns
http://www.irr.org.uk/2005/april/ak000016.html, http://www.ncadc.org.uk/

The there's all the other trade union, anti-racist, antifasicst , anti-privatisation campaigns etc. etc.

I'm sure there's loads of other things you can get involved in

As I say it probably does require tactics, strategy and theory- what are your suggestions then das uberdog?

Still no answer from das uberdog- what is your plan of action- or do you just like being negative?
There's no point criticisng unless you have something practical to suggest- why don't you?

In all seriousness (football aside!) I certainly believe there is no cynical move Livingstone is not capable of, and wouldn't do, to gain advantage. The man has no principles, other than power. At its most charitable, he is a Mayor Daly Chicago type, where there are no verities other than adding up the shifting bloc (read ethnic/special interest) votes, for constantly changing advantages. Thus, having spent many years championing gay rights, the minute Livingstone senses the numbers dictate a policy priority shift, he comes out in support of the most reactionary Islamic homophobes. It isn't that he is homophobic--he just sees more power to be gained by courting the Muslim fundamentalist vote. After years of posturing as an 'anti-capitalist', he now has strategic alliances with the most parasitic sections of capital--finance capital/the City. After years spent grand-standing about Mi5/Northern Ireland, he is now the Met police's strongest supporter. And so on--it isn't that he has ditched his principles, it is that this whining oleaginous creep has never had any, save one--what will improve his power/image/status. Everything else is subordinate to that. But surely you know all this, don't you? Plain as a pikestaff to anybody who observes the creature over many years, as I have.
