Liverpool 2007-08 thread

corporate whore

oh, thought you were dead
One for the Reds (and fl*ms*er next time he's back, obviously).

So... is this the year for a proper challenge  another fighting-it-out-for-third :( or the one where we finish below Spurs

Torres looking likely *where's the nonplussed smiley* with Lil Luis going the other way :(

Will Kewell play more than 20 minutes?
Will Crouch start two games in a row?
What's with Rafa's beard?
Will Riise please fuck off?

"There are more questions than answers
Pictures in my mind that will not show
There are more questions than answers
And the more I find out the less I know
Yeah, the more I find out the less I know"

I was waiting until the plans for the new stadium are out, I think it's tomorrow. It's a bit star-trek, I like it, not just another bowl like the Emerites.

As for us - we need a decent left winger, quite excited about torres, gutted to see luis garcia go. :(

Beating Everton twice is hardly aiming high ;) :D

Everton may well make it to the FA Cup Final, but it would be impossible to play them in the Champion's League Final as they aren't in the competition. :)

Apparently we're still going to have a kop end. (not that the kop generates any kind of atmosphere anymore unless it's a big game, almost every game I went too last year you could probably have heard a pin drop)

Be good to see what the plans look like tomorrow.

One of our better players imo. Especially when we have not a single decent winger.

Yeah, but he's always left back. He's not a good left back. Hence the Heinze rumours. Be surprised if that came off, mind..

This will amuse you scousers:

It's been a quiet transfer window for Everton fans so far, so Toffees fans were understandably delighted when the club's official website revealed they had signed Juan Roman Riquelme from Villarreal.

Just one problem though - the story wasn't true.

Everton now claim the article was 'completely untrue and appeared as a result of a technical error that occurred during some maintenance work on the site'.

Defender and a winger/attacking m/f to come hopefully.

Alves for rb/rw would be ideal but would cost loads. Simao can play on either flank. SWP for £10m would be good too. Gamst Pedersen? Will probably be Benayoun though.

As for the defender, Heinze fits the bill of cover for across the back but he won't come. Surprise bid for Micah Richards would be nice.

Top 2 position and an FA Cup required in 07/08 as Chelsea capitulate.

When Riise played ahead of Aurellio v Chelsea last season in the home league game they looked a good combo.

True, true. Thought the home leg vs Barca was probably Riise's finest game for Liverpool. However, neither Aurelio or Riise are left backs.

Enough Riise. Does anyone know if Torres is any good?

I said a while ago that I think Pedersen would be a great signing for us. We should use Bellamy as bait for that one.

Heinze would be a great signing, if only to piss off my man utd season ticket holder of a girlfriend who has his name on the back of her shirt. I'll be straight down the print shop if he sign's for us. Can't see it thou, Been over 50 years since a player has gone direct between the two.

Interesting thoughts here.....

"Liverpool have craved an out-and-out goalscorer since Michael Owen left for Spain in 2004. Torres is not that man – even though his goals return is a respectable 62 in 143 La Liga appearances over four seasons, plus 14 in 42 internationals.
But Dirk Kuyt is, and while he has diligently and uncomplainingly played much of his football outside the penalty area at Anfield to make room for Crouch and Fowler, Torres’ impending arrival could see a return to the role he filled for Feyenoord".

hmmmm big difference between the prem and the dutch league.....reckon I could bang in about 10 a season....15now i've knocked the fags on the head...;)

saying that I do rate Kuyt....interesting how he gets on this year, ugly sloth lookaliky;)

My comments on Torres in the La Liga thread were balanced with the "when he played in Spain" comments. But £27m is a lot for the 8th best striker in La Liga.

That explanation that he will help Kuyt is farcical...so you play Kuyt (who scored plenty of goals in a very average league) in his preferred position by paying £27m to play Torres (who scored a decent amount of goals in a highly competitive league) out of position

Bull, that writer has been pulled up in the past for writing a load of tosh.

I love the way people are writing him off already - He's shown poteintial and now he's in a better team, give him a chance.

I'm not writing him off...it just seems that £27m is a helluva lot to pay for a guy who still hasn't scored 20 goals in a season.

Think the pool are getting a bit desperate to be honest.....they were a country mile behind Utd and Chelsea next year, what is it 18 years since a prem, Utd strenghening chelsea going to be there or there abouts they have to change something, I like Torres though know that Liverpool are missing something, they will still go to places like sunderland / pompey and lose they might get results against Utd / chelsea / arsenal though they will lack the consistency again, mark my words:)

I'd guess the new owners feel they need more influence at the very top of the game and to do that they need more trophies.

Of course, the idea of the foreign investors remains to take control of the PL and through eliminating relegation, making it immensely profitable – in other words turning it into a clone of the NFL.

There really is no other reason for them to be involved in this country, just as there’s no financially responsible reason for a club with a ground that generates no more ticket income than Tottenham – and with inherited debt of £80 million wiped off – spending this absurd amount.

From the perspective of USA entrepreneurs, it makes no sense at all, unless you’re angling for huge long term profitability.

The signing of Heinze - which I initially thought was a non-starter - appears to be more and more likely. Would seem Utd would prefer he went to Spain or Italy but he wants to stay in the Prem.

Personally I rate him and would admire him for having the balls to make the switch. What do you make of it DRINK? ?

would be gutted as it goes, I do think evra is a better player though something about Heinze that myself and the majority of fans love....he was player of the year before last, the argentinian stuart pearce, loads of heart and fight.....I don't want him to go anywhere least of all to Liverpool:(

he is a god botherer though and has sh*t hair:)
