Live8

I know this has been said loads before by other people and by me on other threads but it pisses me off so much I'm still ranting..

any merit the whole thing might have had was completely scuppered by the music ghettoisation; Africa needs to be participant, not recipient.

Chris Martin is the only human in the world who I could *really* fucking hurt (well other than my racist flatmate).

Thatcher, Bush, Mugabe, Pinochet, Sting are all still alive but you'd rather hurt Chris Martin? Get a grip!

bill gates followed by Dido.

these are the fucking end times, my friends..

and if they aren't, then I'm taking this as scientific proof that god doesn't exist.

yer wrong dub , sorry, this is amazing stuff, regardless of the politics, how often do u see Macca & U2 then Richard Ashcroft with coldplay.

i think bob is genuinely trying to do good, regardless of it's effectiveness, but then is it a consipracy?

Bizarrely the BBC with Mr Ross are trying to deconstruct it while it's a happening, the crazy fuked up postmodern-post media world

please post yer thoughts!

I expect its doing some good... its perfect veg-out TV whatever.. especially liked the management talk from Bill. :p

i really thought geldof was trying to be funny, announcing "blah blah, the greatest philanthropist ever etc"....... bill gates

but he was fucking serious! dear god, whatever respect i had for the motives of live8 before has completely fucking gone now

Bill " I invented permanent temp status for my work force" Gates at live8?
Jesus fucking Christ, it's like one of those weird dreams...

Dido, what the fuck? Sounds like a pissed up Romford bird on karaoke. I used to like her, but she is shit live.

She'd defo get it though.

The worst thing about this is the fucking twats in the audience. And the fact that the first 500 yards are full of VIP cunts and fucking competition winners who look completely disinterested in anything other than the passing cameras.

Wonder how many useless cockney cunts we'd be rid of if Hyde Park fell into the sea right now?

I went into the kitchen, where it's on the telly, just for five minutes and ended up shouting "wanker" at twice. Mind you, it was at Christ "mmm Tony you're so brilliant" Martin both times. And he is.

bob introduces bill gates introduces Dildo (the singer who can't sing!)

it maybe crass but it's still amazing i reckon, for all it's star bullshit there's no denying the power of this rock politik or is there? i'm undecided.....

i've no love for U2 or coldplay but sometimes they have a function surely?

apparently you could buy tickets for the golden circle for 700 quid a throw.

i was also told yesterday that all of the artists/presenters are being paid for today. i really hope that's not true.

Oh yeah, very powerful - reaches a lot of people, countless millions watching it. Only problem is that they've forgotten about it a week later...

<hopes his cynicism is proved wrong>

I have been wandering in and out shouting 'for fucks sake' whenever a new lame arse is warbling on stage. Much to the irritation of my sister who just wants to watch the tennis.

I resent the use of the phrase 'rock and roll' by the Live 8 people. I havnt seen any yet. Maybe Velvet revolver might do some.

wrongspeed, i think you've fallen in love with the PoMo hyperreality of it, the media spectacle and unlikely collisions of spheres of influence, the Baudrillardian absurdity.

unfortunately, that doesn't stop it being unmitigated wank from start to finish
