Just found the CD and it's playing at the moment. It's still the bollocks.

Looking at the CD booklet they got through :

6392 guitar strings
3760 drum sticks
3008 guitar picks
6000 pints of milk.
50,000 cans of beer.

Live rock and roll at its best.

The itinerary for the World Slavery Tour 84/85, listed on that booklet, is just insane. That's the reason for their planet dominating hugeness right there, they worked away at it.

Contrast any number of UK bands complaining that the US market is impossible to break into after doing about six shows on the east coast and then wondering why no fucker in Idaho/Colorado/Kansas buys their records

Usual answers to this topic;

The Ramones - "It's Alive"
Daft Punk - "Alive"
Squarepusher - "Alive In Japan" (on the second CD of "Do You Know Squarepusher)

Exactly, I was going to list the places that they played and then worked out that it would take me until the early hours of tomorrow. The first five gigs are in Poland, bands these days of the same size wouldn't do five gigs in Europe.

I've just noticed Underworld are on tour right now!

may have to sort summat out for this...

Does anyone know if Peter Frampton's live album 'Framton comes alive' (i think) still tops the most sold for a live album? Or am i out of date now

yes, you are out of date but I have no idea whether your information is

The Smiths - Rank. Actually, some of the bootlegs - especially the one from Oxford in '85 - are better, but it's still awaesome. Especially where Morrissey does his 'I am a living sign' bit...

Bob Dylan and the Band - Before the Flood - Phwoar! And 'Hard Rain' is IMVHO even better, although lost in the long list of official Dylan releases that never quite made the grade...

Oh, and the Oysterband's 'Alive and Shouting' merits a mention, 'cos they really are a wonderful live band, at the peak of their form on this album...

My fave is what NME at the time called the worst live album of all time:-

Mott the Hoople Live (the London side is better than the New York side).

If You Want Blood - Acker Dacker

Also; The 'Oo - Live At Leeds, Elvis' '68 Comeback Special, Nirvana Unplugged...I've also love Priest Unleashed In The East :o

Live albums are shit - you hear the songs from the studio albums played not nearly as well and the sound is shitter.

i'm not normally a pink floyd fan, but side b from ummagumma (careful with that axe, eugene & set the controls for the heart of the sun) is ace.

the rest of it's a load of old shit, mind. :)

Underworld, Everything Everything is absolutely fucking superb!!

I've got it on CD, on my iPod, and in glorious 5.1 Surround on DVD. Its teh bollocks of live albums. Just got me tickets to the Roundhouse gig

My other favorite live albums are the recently remastered Concert For Bangladesh double CD with George Harrison, Dylan, Clapton, Ravi Shankur et al.

Also for all those mentioning the Ramones..they've just released 'It's Alive' the 2-Disc DVD which is uber cool.
