List the films you've seen at the cinema: 2007

I've just seen The Life of Others, about a Stasi officer that gradually gets involved in the life of the couple under his surveillance in 1984 East Berlin.
There are some similarities with the Conversation, it is very well shot and the main actor is excellent.

Based on the number of films you saw last year, surely this isn't your first?

Went to see Dreamgirls today, somewhat reluctantly. It was about what i expected, i guess.

Some of the singing was excellent, and newcomer Jennifer Hudson has a magnificent voice, and can also act. But i think that Eddie Murphy stole the show; he was great.

the fountain - looks nice, interesting concepts, nice soundtrack (partly courtesy of mogwai I believe). Not *amazing* but pretty good.

Recently I've seen:

Babel

Last King of Scotland (for a second time as I kept falling asleep first time)

Superman

Rocky Balboa

Last night I saw Venus (scripted by Hanif Qureshi - which is why I wanted to see it). It was quite strange- not at all what I was expecting. An old guy falls for his friend's young niece. Quite enjoyable, quite affecting.

casino royale (on pirate dvd)
the pursuit of happyness - surprisingly good, not hollywood slush at all
notes of a scandal - cate blanchett and judi dench oscar nominee heavyweights...the weight rests heavily on their shoulders and dont they deserve it

tonite 'Bobby' if my mate gets out of work early but am up at 5 in the morning

12.08 à l'est de Bucarest

Being the French title for a Romanian film whose real name is, 'A fost sau n-a fost'.

Very peculiar business, but it's still flowering in my mind a week later.

Also a recent French one with Alain Chabat and Charlotte Gainsbourg, whose title escapes me too.

Twice in one month!!

Two visits to the cinema too, arf arf! :D

Dreamgirls 1/5 - I hate musicals but this has to be one of the worst I've seen. It does have its moments but Eddie Murphy saves this film from scoring a neat 0/5 IMO.
The Last Kiss 3/5 - Standard American indie rom com. The acting is good but slightly hampered by some rom-com by numbers writing by the usually very good Paul Haggis.
Hot Fuzz 5/5 - Class.
Blood Diamond 3/5 - Violent but worthy.
The Good Shepherd 2/5 - Matt Damon is good but by god is this film slow and boring. Avoid at all costs.
Pursuit of Happyness 3/5 - Will Smith drags this film from the claws of "decidedly average" and makes it just "good" with a great performance that somehow makes the gallons of cheese more easy to digest.
Flushed Away 4/5 - Very sweet and often very funny animation in the style of Aardman.

Casino Royale - I was a little reluctant at first to see the new bond film...untill i saw the trailer! I was excited ever since and the film did not disappoint. It was nowhere near the BEST bond film, i felt it dragged a particular area of storyline slightly (those who have seen it will know the bit i think) but Daniel Craig has firmly established himself as a bond. 9/10

Pans Labyrinth - Not what i was expecting. From the trailers i had seen i was expecting an epic fantasy with alot more...labyrinth! But it was a plesant supprise and i feel they got the balance about right. An intelligent film with alot of scope for indepth talks about imagery metaphor, how "real" the experiences were, and some dubious monster impressions. It gave me a chance to brush up on my spanish too which is always a bonus! 8/10

Tenacious D : The pick of Destiny - Not exaclty the most thought provoking movie, its a merry jaunt with powerslides a plenty. It was exactly what you would want from a film by the D, you love them, you love the film, simple as :)

London to Brighton, Notes on a Scandal and Perfume are all on my to see list

Are Apocolypto and Last King of Scotland worth a look see?

this year in the cinema i watched

(or was it last year?)
-the departed -which i thought was the amazzzing!
-red rose - surprisingly good film
-casiono royale -one good bond movie
and -notes on a scandal which i too really think it is great!

The Last King of Scotland - Really good performances. Thought the movie was good, however felt some of the arcs with secondary characters were dropped.

Wow, some of you guys go to the cinema a lot!
So far I've seen
Babel - 2/5 - don't bother. It totally defeats the point of itself by being really racist. It is also boring, and not pleasent in any way to watch. Not even Brad makes up for it.
Last King of Scotland - 3/5 - Good. Whittikaer is fab as always, and McAvoy is amiable. Not much actual history and not as harrowing as I thought it would be, I think they down play all the horror.
