do you always have to be such an irritating c*nt ? cant you just come onto a thread and give the O.P. some proper alternatives instead of picking imaginary faults much like you tried and failed to do the other night ?

Oooooh looks like a bitch fight a'brewing...

in summery, seagate is the best drive in terms of noise + performance, although the Samsung has its benefits.

Plonker, that's the Baracuda IV, not the Baracuda 8 9 or 10 that the OP would be buying. If the OP wants low noise and can accept low storage space (let alone find one of the things) then laptop drives would be better. Considering your little rant up there about not offering suitable alternatives it's rather hypcritical suggesting a drive that's been out of production for years as an alternative.

By the way, you might want to recheck that article : http://www.silentpcreview.com/article29-page1.html guess what drive sits at the top of the recomendations list these days?

# The large 120mm fan provides air flow over a large area, cooling not only the CPU, but the VGA card, Northbridge, FET, and RAM.

yup, 120mm, not 92.
Damn, you're right, however the 7700 is still an old model, the 9500 is much better, the TT BT is just as good as the 9500, the Scythe ninja is possible to run passively and if not is even quieter than the 7700 with a nexus on it, there's at least 15 other heatsinks around that provide better performance thant the 7700 for as little or lower noise and anyone who thinks that a 120mm fan running at 2000RPM will only make 20dBa is dreaming. Edit: How i managed to forget the Thermalright Ultra 120 or the older XP/SI-120 i don't know, if i were building again i'd be using one of those two.
Also AKASA DO NOT REBADGE PSU`s, they produce them themselves, Antec are rebadged
Bullshit, they're Enhance units. How do i know this? Find an akasa PSU, find the UL number (starts EXXXXXX) and plug it into this site, see who pops up. Ehance make good PSUs, but they aren't seasonic, their focus on low noise is only recent and not as practiced.

No it doesn't. It looks like the bastard offspring of a filing cabinet and an accordion.

Beauty is perhaps in the eye of the beholder, but that thing's reminiscent of a crumpled brick.

More like a geek fight. If it carries on this way they'll soon be arranging a meet at the local computer fair at noon, pdas in belt-mounted holsters....

:p

TBH I don't give a monkeys what it looks like, it's big, heavy and expensive.

And therefore cool :D

Nah, you can never find anything recent at those things and the range sucks. They all have the same suppliers, just slightly different pricing. They are pretty good for getting things that don't change cheap like RAM and HDs, otherwise i don't really bother with them anymore. :D

i was talking about the inside of it - look how neat and tidy the layout is, like a F1 car engine or something.... the outside of the case is pretty grim i agree - loose the castor wheels and it would be ok-ish

Are there any optical or hard drives in there though? Or is the case so massive that they seem invisible in that photo?

I've always had a soft spot for the innards of the cheesegrater Powermacs. They were always ridiculously easy to expand and open up

I have no idea where the drives are actually!

The cheesegraters are a lovely design - I've got a brand new black macbook sitting in front of me now too, just arrived... lovely!
