I like 'Hello'. Should I go round wearing a pillowcase with eyeholes cut in? :o :D

I like some of his solo stuff but I LUUUURVE the Commodores, especially the funky 'Too Hot Ta Trot' & 'Brickhouse'.

I'd would have unhesitatingly said CRAP until last year when I belatedly fell in with the Commodores LP "Machine Gun". Totally rocks. And anyone who has the nerve to stand up and sing "Young girls are my weakness" has to have some neck... So, purely on the strength of Machine Gun, 95% crap but not unforgivably so.

Still gonna vote crap, tho, for all the shit we had to endure in the 80's.

He's playing a free open air concert when I'm in New York.

I'm gonna go and check him out. I'm not really a fan but it's free and I may be pleasantly surprised.

I love him! But in an ironic kind of way. Yep, he is GOOD CHEESE.

'Do it to me one more time' always used to crack me up, it's bloody awful but hilariously brilliant at the same time....

Just realising this is an old thread randomly bumped ( )

But this (to me) is contentious ...

If you have to react to someone in an 'ironic' way to appreciate them, then that makes them crap in my book!!

Didnt like him so much when he went solo and started being creepy around blind girls though.

I love that song.....sorry to quote 4-month old post Belushi! It reminds me of when I first moved into my house & me & my housemates used to play darts in the local after work.....:o I saw an interview with Lionel Ritchie whereby he claimed to have been given that fantastic clay head (you MUST know the video!) and admitted, a bit sheepishly that it had 'kinda gotten broken' or similar).

Anyway, 'Machine Gun', 'Brickhouse' etc are absolute funk classics. :)

But I don't think you're crap William.

:p

The Commodores were actually a pretty tight, good all round funk band once.

Sadly the 80s weren't a good time to be a funk band. Back then it seemed far easier to make a buck if you got rid of the fancy instrumentation and employed a jetty-curled lead singer to croon along as wetly as possible. And before you know it the respectable band had melted into the background and you were only left with the aforementioned wet lettuce vocalist. See Lionel Ritchie...

i think "brick house" is a funky,fun song:cool:
dont know other commodores stuff at all..

but lionels solo music is about as much fun as root canal..its SO bland and souless, very similiar in style to phil collins(also having big hits back then:( ) another DREADFUL artist that people like "ironically"
or possibly for nostalgia reasons:confused:

Luther van Ritchie
Alexander O`Dross
Lionel Neal

they all sound the same to me , vomit inducing sugary shite.

Hear Jimmy Lindsay sing Easy and you will never want to listen to anyone else sing it again

Hello !! ~ Lionel is cool !!

Perfect shagging music !! Brings memories of a particularly productive if illicit groping session I had at a Cheese & wine do that got out of control :D :o I
