Lily Allen

She reckons her dad did nowt to get her where she is, dunno if its true or not but her tunes are good enough on their own merit anyway.

I reckon she's great - got her album a while back when no-one had heard of her and loved it, she's got an attitude I like as well :)

But god knows how you've only seen a few interviews - she's fucking EVERYWHERE :D

Indeed, even I've seen her in umpteen shows but until now, I'd no idea who on earth she was or given her songs much attention.

I don't watch those sort of shows and I never listen to pop radio, so it's been easy for me to avoid her I guess

who cares about what family ties she's got? no one ever goes on about mike skinner being related to chris martin to diss his credibility.

aslong as its not another manufactured boy/girl band from another talent show singing another cover its all good by me.

That's exactly how I described her to Flashman. I was slating her before I heard it precisely because her Dad is Keith Allen but I was pleasantly surprised. Her tunes are quite comedic but I'm not sure how long the novelty will last.

The sounds of Smile strangely puts me smack bang on Brighton sea front with the smell of salty air, fish and chips and doughnuts wafting by so it must be pretty good to promote that kind of image in my mind.

ok but overhyped

although keith allen's her dad she apparently didn't see him much and grew up with her mum on an estate somewhere. i'm sure it does help her, having a famous dad - even if he is a cnut!

to be honest, i think LDN is a good tune and Smile is an ok catchy pop tune, although it does grate after a while. i saw her sing it on the Channel 4 album show the other night and she looked bored as fuck, as if she'd sung it about 1000 times already (which she probably has), and more concerned about the mic pack on her back that was pulling her dress down! i've heard some of the album and it doesn't get any better than those two tunes. the music is well-produced - warm pop vibes, a touch of ska/reggae/hiphop - the sort of thing that'll go down well at the moment....but nothing special IMO. the lyrics are interesting initially - an obvious female take-off of the mike skinner style - but don't really stand up to repeated listens and actually start to sound a bit naive and mockney after a bit, self-conciously trying to be cool.

basically there's one or two decent ideas stretched over an album. she'll do well - and good luck to her - but imo the reason everyone is creaming their pants over her at the moment is cos she's done something a little different than the usual crap filling the pop charts at the moment. still overhyped though...the guardian gave her album 5 stars and said she was better than the streets - calm down guys!

I haven't heard the album at all but I think 'Smile' is a jewel of a pop tune, whatever the story behind the artist. With a dash of Althea and Donna stylee innit.

Her likeness to her dad is a tad disturbing though...I mean, it's Keith 'Fat Les' Allen we're talking here... :(

I like her. The album is quite good too. Fun summery tunes with good production values.

However, I do feel that if she gets more airplay and attention in the media I will get pissed off with her and the tunes. They could easily become annoying.

that was apt whimsy not bordem.

It's fuckin shit !

The single they keep playing everywhere is diabolical toilet. Fuckin horrrendous shite. It's the worst thing I ever heard in my fuckin life. Every thing about it is wrong. It's a fuckin carbuncle. I bet Don Letts told her da it was great. <shakes fist at Letts> Shut up Lettsy .. it's shit and that's it.
I hate it me to be fair.

They have become annoying for me allready !

any tune that gets so overplayed will get annoying.. especially if you didn't like it that much in the first place..

anyway, I still like the girl's music... 'everything's just wonderful', 'LDN' and 'knock em out' need to be heard before you judge the girl on one overplayed no.1 record..

(but I suspect it will never been to some of you lots taste EVER as yes it is aimed at the commercial market and is a bit too happy :p )

you wrote it, didn't you?

I still haven't heard Smile - I think the only chance of me hearing it is is someone posts a link to an MP3 of it on here. Someone?

I can't get past the fact her dad is Keith Allen. He's a prize cock. It taints everything she does for me.

I might be wrong but didn't she grow up without him and has nothing to do with the cock faced ego wanker.

It was a bleak tuneless thing I sold to Mr Allen. He told me it was 'shit'. A ballpark figure was mentioned. I accepted.
"How the fuckin hell did a twat like you write 'Police and Thieves' lol "?
I didn't have to take that but I was well outnumbered. I don't usually get tooled up to hand over a hit pop tune to an artist. They are usually appreciative and quite often they will ask if I mind before adding a brass section for example. I normally don't give a bollocks either but this has me fuming.
Well fuck it like.
I recorded the follow up just this morning strangely. They won't fuck with this one .. it's not a happy tune of course it fucking isn't. There is totally no melody end of fuckin story. My milkman said it's 'fackin pony Roy lol'.

She makes great play of the fact that she's been expelled from 4 schools. She omits to mention that they were all *very* expensive ones, and the only school she didn't get chucked out of was the Brit Academy, which is full of rich poncy tossers anyway. Oh and my brother was at one of the schools she wasa t and he reports that she is a snotty, arrogant cow.

But hey, it's a nice pop tune! :)

is it gabba?

i've heard this lily allen's "smile" jobby coming out of the teenager's room a few times, ane at first i thought it was that paris hilton one. there could be a new scene there. "wealthy female offpsring do reggae-lite pop" did you write the paris hilton one too, roy?

Not fond of the song. Nice enough summery tune, but I hate affected vocal tics, so I won't be in any hurry to hear more of her.

.

Who said she was a looker..
No wonder she got expelled from 4 schools.. Pure Butters ..
Utter poptart..... I reckon its A one album thing & Then its a bit of drug abuse & maybe a Kid..Then the second album about drugs & her Kid....

The girl in my Local CO-OP Looks & sing's Better.... I'm into Her sound... Can they swap jobs...

Since when did looks come into how a song sounds or how much you like something? Didn't stop Husker Du or the Pixies.

Lily Allen does passable pop tunes that after 3 or 4 listens begin to grate. The comparisosn to the Streets are just lazy journalism because they can't think of any other way to describe her music.

Yes, only with a soupcon of Antarctican noseflute thrash thrown in.

I confess - though I can't stand Paris Hilton, I quite like like that song. :o

Smile and LDN didn't do much for me, the song just floated by – she hasn't got that interesting a voice.
