Lights on bikes

Fullyplumped

in a personal capacity
Driving home this evening in the dark I came across quite a few cyclists. Absolutely none of them had any lights. I know it's still August but it's getting darker. Do cyclists these days have an aversion to using lights? They're very cheap and you can take them off the bike when you don't need it, so what's the problem?

Lights are class

Compact, bright, metal ones are even better

bulky plastic ones are just shit, they break too easily

these are class, except for the non-replaceable LED's - but they're waterproof, compact, tough aluminium

two of these on your bars, one on each side of the stem, and youve got a fairly cheap and fairly bright pair of lights

no sideways visibility though....

actually, thinking about it, they're pretty shit, they'd be better as survival torches than bike lights

oh and the plastic bracket breaks too easily and you cant get replacements

It's easy at this time of year.. especially around about now, to get caught out. Having got used to not needing lights all summer it's very easy to go out after work and then suddenly find yourself in the dark!

Give it a week and things should be back to normal. :)

^^ wot gaijingirl said.

I've been caught out this year because I haven't needed lights for so long. They're back in me bag now though.

I honestly don't think most people ride without lights on purpose. If you think it's scary being surprised by a bicycle in dusk - imagine what it's like being the cyclist on the road... The good thing is it is so horrible that having been caught out once, the first thing most of us will do on getting home is get the lights out asap!

I've ended up leaving my bike at work and taking lights with me the next day before.

The guy the other night was wearing proper cycling gear so I think he was just caught out. I've had it happen to me too - it does seem to get dark early quite quickly. Bah - autumn :(

That reminds me, is it you, with the cool fibre optic light wire thing wrapped around your bike?
