yup but he's not as good/obsessive about it as me![]()
My world would collapse without any one of the following: tea, beer, bread, apples, cheese and tomatoes.
What does he cook for himself?
it's more an intolerance than an allergy, he won't diejust not be very happy for a while.

What do they do to him?
there's a range of fake-tomato food stuffs called nomato... you could try that

haven't a clue what they like... hope they aren't as wrong as carob
Bloody hell, it's like my family. They're all vegetarian anyway, but in addition my mum is allergic to tomatoes (thankfully only mildly) and citrus, my dad is allergic to tyramine which rules out any aged cheeses and is gluten intolerant, and my brother is very dangerously allergic to eggs, and dairy and meat cause really bad eczema flare ups (he finds it safest to be vegan).allergy... which is a pain... he accused me of poisoning him the other day because I made cous cous with a load of harissa.... i tried to sneak it past him but he asked what was in harissa... and, well, there's a lot of tomato
the dairy thing is the allergy too...
poor thing, it's worse for him!
It's not a bad idea though - I have to do it quite often cos of the little bastards- alternatively, you could go for my other option and cook yourself a fantastic meal then do some oven chips for him.
I reckon some onions, garlic, carrots, celery and peppers, fried, then cooked slowly in some stock and then blitzed might be a good alternative as a base for a sauce otherwise.
Not to replicate the taste obviously, but you'd still have the sweet/sour thing that tomatoes add, maybe?![]()
hmmmm, I wonder if it is in the skin and pips?
generally we avoid anything with any tomato in it although he will just about cope with anything with under 5% tomato in an ingredients list...
he also thinks for some reason that sun-dried tomatoes might not be as bad either... but that's an unproven theory currently.
not sure about tomatillos... to be honest, never really come across them...
tyramine sounds familiar. isnt that what causes gout?Bloody hell, it's like my family. If they all wanted to come round for dinner at once I'd have to tell them to bring their own bloody food!
I suppose with that genetic heritage I should be grateful that I got away with food allergies only to bran and some food colourings. The only thing I really have to avoid eating is wholemeal or granary bread.

For my own curiosity I did a little experiment. This is what I reckon you should do:
Either grate and fry fresh beetroot (or roast and liquidise it)
Add a little bit of dark brown sugar to the pan and caramelise it a bit
Deglaze it with a bit of balsamic.
Use it instead of tinned toms, but also add mushrooms or other savoury things.
I liquidised mine with a tiny (literally tiny) bit of stock and put it on pasta with olives, artichoke hearts and some roasted garlic - it was good.
cheers, I'll have to try that!Dahls are a great idea. They can meet the requirments and you can add different veg and spices to give them different flavours.A little bit of vinegar and brown sugar might help dahls, soups etc. I don't know though, I'm just guessing.
