Life on Mars (American version)

Good old Carlton, so many quality programmes:o

Quick point - US version of The Office is better than the UK version (whether you like Gervais or not).

This has Harvey Keitel being a bastard in it. What's not to like?

I thought the first ep was ok, but then again I wasn't blown away by the UK Pilot either. It took a while to hook me.

Sorry haterz.. I think the American Office is very funny. I'm looking forward to the US life on Mars, especially if they do they whole 70's US cop thing accurately...

I don't normally go for US remakes but this one sounds good to me.

After all, the point of reference for our version was surely ' The Sweeney' which in itself was ripped off from US cop shows like 'The Streets of San Fransico' etc.

And Harvey Keitel. Top casting. :)

just watched episode one, and it wasn't too bad. there were some nice little touches that made me laugh, and i'd forgotten the first episode in sufficient detail that i didn't remember what happened, even whilst recognising a lot of the individual scenes.

and it's got clark peters in! and chris moltisanti. the guy who plays sam isn't quite as sweet and charming, but hwe's alright and harvedy is clearly having lots of fun. perfectly watchable.

You're right. As I said in the oringinal post its a bit suspect to slag something of before you've seen it.
Having said that I don't understand why the yanks (who have so many great writers, and so much production money) need to play this daft "anything you create we can do better shite." We don't do that with them. We didn't do a British remake of Dexter or the Sheild did we?
Although we are doing Law & Order: London, written by the bloke who did Torchwood, starring Martha out of Doctor Who and Apollo out of Battlestar Galactica.

Mmmm I have heard about this :hmm:

I really like Law and Order (in all it's incarnations) and will be interested to see how it translates to this country ... I only wish thay hadn't cast Feema whats-her-name. She's such a rubbish actress.

Innit, it doesnt inspire confidence. I read its just going to be remaking episodes form the first seasons of L&O.

I've seen two eps. He's definitely stealing the show. He's playing it like Dirty Harry. "Warant, what's that? <kicks door down, while Lead Actor looks shocked.>" He's obviously enjoying the role.

The lead actor is a bit vanilla, in comparison.

Oh no :( - I assumed they were going to take the procedural format but with new stories not re-hash American ones.

Mind you I also suspect it may end up just being a bigger brighter glossier version of "The Bill"!

I'd actually like to see something like CSI: London. It would be an interesting take on cultural difference. Naturally, they'd have to have a lead-in by a Who song.

But so very pretty. Also, she said nice things about my t-shirt. :)

Out of interest, what good British stuff do the Americans get without it being re-hashed and turned American?

Film or telly?

I think BBC America show a lot of British shows, and PBS, not that anyone really watches those channels.

We get BBC-America and PBS shows several older shows such as Are You Being Served? and Keeping Up Appearences. You also get a lot of British mystery shows and of course, period dramas.

We can get a lot of stuff on video if you're interested in finding it.

Personally, I don't think BBC America does a very good job. They probably show the least interesting stuff available. They could quite well show the original Office or Life on Mars and be better off.
