Lido Summer 2007?

*News*

apparantly the lido opens on the 2. of july.

there are still a lot of builders there at the moment though..?

i absolutely can't wait to splash around in the brixton lido this year (and read and have coffee and danish pastry etc)!!

Went up to Tooting again today to get some practice in my wetsuit - it reminded me of how much I like to swim in rainy weather lidos - it was practially empty!!! :D

I can't go on the 2nd but I suggest a re-inauguration of the breakfast club on the 3rd (assuming the lido really *is* finished by the 2nd...) at 8:30... anyone up for it?

[excited] :D :D

Very excited about the new gym/spa at the lido - anyone got any inkling of how much membership will cost?

i will only larf'n'larf if the gym is full of cycle'n'jogin machines, like right next the park

can't wait till the Lido opens, i'll be down b4 work 4 sure. I can really feel it should open now.

Went past the park side of Brockwell Lido this afternoon. You can see that the Lido is actually full of water, which is hopefully warming up nicely, and the bike racks are installed outside the new entrance on the east side. So it all looks as though it will actually open in July, rather than being constantly deferred like last year's re-opening of London Fields. :)

But because of all the delays with the water mains, there is still a lot of work to be done to finish the new buildings for the gym/class spaces - according to the BLU website, that won't be until September. Hopefully it is mostly fit out works and won't cause too much noise nuisance to users of the Lido.

One other thing I noticed from the issues log on the BLU website - because of the delays to building work, there will only be cold showers outside until the end of the season.
Better brew a thermos of hot coffee if you are swimming first thing in the morning. :D

it's bloomin cold still considering we are in june isn't it?

maybe a good thing the lido hasn't openend its doors yet.

i ' d like to say i am coming to the breakfast club on the 3 rd but i am afraid i won't stick by my word...

quiete loud these days in yoga classes. true apparantly most of the building work etc area will only finish in september. i hope this nice kiosk place will be back with the same people who ran it last year.

:)

Do you still need the wetsuit to stop you dying of hypothermia in there? I'm itching to do some outdoor swimming...

Not at all! I haven't been wearing the wetsuit previously and it is now warmer than before - I just need to practice swimming in a wetsuit because I'm obliged to wear one for open water triathlon swimming :( .

argh, it makes such an amazing refreshing sight. i nearly jumped inside earlier...:) anyone up for an illegal dip? i wonder what they said if all of a sudden a bunch of swimwear people just came and jumped in.. :D

btw how much is the tooting lido to get in this year gg?

They do seem to be clearing up and tidying up the site too!

Am hoping to make this my first lido season....am managing to get out of bed and run round Brockwell Park every other day or so atm so should be able to do the same for the lido.

Any one got any idea about the prices for one-off swim action and opening times. Is first thing pretty chocka?

Swim prices and times are up on the BLU site here:

http://www.brockwelllido.com/

If you plan to go every day it's worth getting a season pass - I got one last year for £80 as a student - I think it was over £100 for normal.

Generally it's pretty busy between about 7:00am and 8:30am with the before work crew, then it goes very quiet until just before they start charging proper daytime prices.

If it is at all cloudy it is very quiet.

If there is the slightest hint of rain - it's empty. I've swum in there on very hot days and had the pool to myself on numerous occasions because of cloudy sky or some light rain.

Conversely, on the very hot days - especially in the summer holidays you will be going for a laugh and to cool down - not to swim. If you leave it too late on a hot summer day you will probably end up queueing for quite a long time to get in. We've already had to queue at Tooting once this season.

phew, prices are hardly changed from last year (part of me was anticipating a regular entry to be around the £8 mark this year..)

:)

-hops up and down in lido opening excitement-
