Lido Summer 2007?

I think being cold and sleep deprived doesn't help. And you're just out on your feet pounding the pavement for about twice as long.

Maybe the 4-5 months of training for a marathon vs. just getting up and doing the moonwalk with no prep makes a *little* difference as well ;)

Ah!! Yes the sleep deprivation really got to me - it was really hard to stay positive. I didn't really do any preparation either tbh - which probably didn't help! I was doing tons of other sporty type stuff at the time so I figured I'd be fit enough to walk - well I was obviously since I did it, but it was bloody hard!

yeah the moonwalk did suck! I just remember the last couple of hours just willing myself through it, getting to the end and thinking 'oh thank god' and just wanting to be home and in bed as fast as humanly possible. Whereas after the marathon I was just totally buzzing, high as a kite!

Why DID I do the moonwalk twice?!

Just to point out to anyone who might get the wrong idea - I'm not especially good at any of these things - I think the last triathlon I did I came last.. :( - but you get such a buzz from it! (not coming last - that bit sucks - the actual participating I mean!) :D

Beeboo I have to say that for me running a marathon seems like the pinnacle of wowness! Much respect!! (especially as running is what I'm worst at!)

Anyway - LIDO! Breakfast club - are you in??

I'm guessing that when you run you get the old exercise endorphins going whereas just walking, you're never going fast enough to set them off or something... ah well I'll give it a go... as GG says; it is a nice route :)

yeah, I'm sure that's it.

I'm sure doing 44k during the day would be loads better - especially if you're not in a rush, stop for lunch...it'll be nice. :)

Tooting Lido opens this Sunday!

Although the weather forecast looks a little *chilly* for this weekend.

I'm half tempted to go for a dunk and freeze my tits off :D brrr!

Can't wait for the lido to open and will also try to meet up with the breakfast peeps in the summer hols after missing everyone last year.
Last years thread made me laugh, it was all 'I was there in the blue swimsuit and goggles at 8.30'. Seem to remember I had a limp and was mistaken for a lido local a few times. :D

yay and boo - I'd love to go for a swim now - I've been outside watering plants and it's gorgeous - really warm! Bloody Brixton Rec... never bloody open... I really don't fancy Clapham pool with it's spunky water - I want to be outdoors but I don't have time to trek to North London - I'll just have to be patient I guess. YAY - my favourite time of year!

there was some poor woman who kept getting stared at by me cos I was sure it was some urban person or other. She must have thought I was so rude...

There was a woman who didn't have a leg who we were convinced might be lemontop. We wondered if that was why lemontop had a limp and she had just forgotten to add that the reason for the limp was the lack of leg!!

i've got a white swimming cap that I'll dig out. I could write U75 on it or something? Although I feel a bit embarrassed doing that.. :D

Tempted by Tooting this weekend, but I sill have painful memories of my head hurting last time I took a dip there in mid May.

The lovely London Fields Lido is open for the season now - heated as well ;)

I might try and wipe out my last experience of jumping in, 7am on a February morning to Tooting only for my watch to stop - and very nearly my other ticker too!!

I may well start doing mornings in Tooting next week though if anyone's up for it? Can it really be that bad at the end of May? It's got to be better than February right? :D I'll give it a go and report back.

hardcore! :D

Tooting is a touch in the wrong direction for me on a weekday, but if the weather is good, it might be worth making the trek.

I think "overly optomistic" is more like it. I always think.. "Oh it will be fine.... just fiiiiiiiiine" about all these things.... :o :D :D

I'm not hardcore - I just wear rose tinted glasses...

erm, it wasn't *quite* warm enough for the lido this weekend...in fact it was barely warm enough to bother leaving the house

come on global warming, sort it out!

is it open already?

(still seems to be under construction..?)

i was in germany last week and went swimming quite a lot. all lakes and puplic swimming pools were open due to an early heatwave in april. the normal opening is 1.june. also germany expects a really hot summer this year!

oh why can't there be better weather over here as well. i reckon it is the most single biggest factor that does my head in living over here. grmpf!

arrghhh it is 30 degrees today back home.

but i am sitting here in sarf london with a fleece and dreaming of summer (considering if i should put the heating on).

it sucks.

looking forward to lido days though should the summer arrive here hopefully soon.

just saw a nice bikini ad from m&s, will go and check soon.

I gave Tooting a try last weekend. Just about survived the sodding 16 degrees in the water. There was a nice chilled out atmosphere though. The forecast for this weekend looks encouraging :)

We were all set to go to Tooting last weekend but got involved in a last minute crisis meaning we missed it.... :( definitely going to try and get there this weekend - getting well and truly fed up with Clapham... :(

Well we went to Tooting for a pre-breakfast swim this morning - which turned into breakfast, lazing around with the newspapers, moving under the trees 'cos we were gonna get sunburned - and morphed into lunch and more lazing about. We only left 'cos we've got tickets for the Broken Family Band!

It was just gorgeous - water is a great temperature (18 deg) - takes your breath away when you get in but then gives you that amazing tingly feeling when you swim - beautiful!

May well go back tomorrow for a run round the comon then a swim. :)

It was amazing how many wetsuited people were there... I need to sell mine and get a new one that fits.... Unless anyone wants to buy a wetsuit off me (will check size later)?

wow sounds great gg (jealousy)

i would love a swim today...but frankly i am so hangover that i can't even get there. doesn't help that i am in southeast london this morning.

i'd love to dip into cold water...right now ...! meh..

:)

It's certainly "invigorating" at the moment.:D

Was back again today after a gorgeous spin round Richmond Park on the bike. It's perfect (albeit crowded if you leave it too late) - they seemed a bit overwhelmed by the crowds though - there was certainly some tension between the chef and the kitchen staff today all of whom were really having to earn their keep with the huge numbers of people there - loads more than yesterday!
