So - I'm off to Lidl tonight to get myself a gel saddle for my bike and some other bits and then I see that they do special cycling pants. Brilliant. But no:

WTF?
Well duuuh those are the only places that people have bicycles  :p

Not the most glamorous shoppinng experience, but they have some great things there. I expecially like their Balck Forrest Ham.

Ah..when I posted the link it was showing bicycle bits!

i see, now i missed the bicycle things again...i think gg once spent about £100 when they had bicycle parts before... :D

They had the gel undies in our local store, and in the nearest Aldi too. You want me to check if they've still got some?

Ahem - available in good ol' Trowbridge too! I bought myself 2 pairs of nice padded cycling pants today, much to the amusement of Miss Felixthekitten. :D

It's true... :o but a lot of it came in very handy!! Especially the handlebar top bag with the plastic sealable map holder - we've used it on every cycle holiday since! :)

of course...bicycle things are always handy

just the £100 make me :D (i takes some effort to spend this amount of money in lidl)

gel saddle i understand...but gel undies..?

that must be a man's thing... :D

They're not gel filled - just ladies knickers padded in all the right places for the discerning lady cyclist :)

Well "if a thing is worth doing, it's worth doing well" - as my mother always says... :D

And SO necessary on long bike journeys. I made the mistake on my first long cycling holiday of wearing normal knickers under shorts and the sores on my arse - I can't tell you - it was horrible!! I hadn't been going out with gaijinboy for very long - it was our first "romantic" holiday away and it was quite embarrassing!! Luckily he thought it was hilarious and lent me his boxers to wear for the rest of the trip... :o That's when I knew it was true love... :D

ahhh, that is lovely

*starts thinking (have never been on a long cycling trip) may need some gel undies one day too... are those any good for something else (another sport for instance) as well?

Excessive lying in bed - avoid bedsores???

Space hopper racing?

erm... dunno.. probably

I *heart* lidl...just so random....

Loads of mad junk like deck chairs, sports bras and fishing rods amongst all the veg and tinned pilchards...

My fave stuff at the moment is the sparkly water (only 25P! a bottle!), soft cheese (with chilli), german sausage, pickles, and those jumbo imitation dairylea things.

Can't wait for all the cycling gear to turn up!

like i have said before:

my fave things are : the olive oil , toilet paper, some of their cheeses like edam and cottage

and of course the themed things.. :)

i only go there approx once a month or so..

when the cycle parts are on let's alert each other okay (i could do with gel undies for the strawberry fair ride)

I think the cycle stuff has been and gone, I'm afraid....

What in the hell is German Lidle doing in good old Brixton -where I used to live in the 80´s?!?
Well - its here in Finland, too - after all.
PS. It was a big thing at the time, when Tesco took over the Acre Lane...

They have been in the UK since the early 90s at least & are undergoing a major expansion ATM. New stores popping up all over the place.

Well, a few years ago they started the same expansion in Finland with 100 shops at the moment.
One relative used to live in a little village in Cornwall a couple of years ago - and Lidl was even there...

well, i have to say it astonished me too.

and flaggs up the meaning of globilisation. this is globilisation taking place (at it's weirdest).

like zora has pointed out. in germany lidl isn't popular at all compared to other discount markets : aldi is the biggest, then propably penny market, and then maybe lidl and others (zora, are there any others?).

lidl has a real reputation to be quite a small and somewhat dishevelled shop. my mother wouldn't do her shopping in any of the discounters. however aldi is very big amongst everybody really especially amongst the young and students and the poor of course.

what is really great in the discounters world are the drugstores in germany like d&m and rossmanns. i can't wait for them to globalise. rossmanns is run by an ex rudolph steiner school business man and they have a very good record for being fair to staff and trading cheap (boots) style products. a lot of them organic. there you can buy for instance a natural wood hairbrush for 2-3.99 euro.

i don't know how little lidl did it? they must have got an aggressive/intelligent business/ financial concept going on.

i guess from a financial point of view this is quite a success story. mad!!!

Trader Joes in California?

i think lidl has gone mad!

how do they do it? would be interesting to get some business advice of them. seems like they are slowly taking over the world.

soon every place will be owned by lids *shakes at the thought of it*
