Lidl....

I love Lidl and so do my cats!

'Coshida'?

Mine love that.

I will never forget my first visit to Lidl - staggered out with two heavy carrier bags for £12. :)

They are brilliant for olive oil, parmesan, tinned stuff, cheapo fruit juice, mineral water & the above-mentioned catfood.

My dear lady bought a couple of steaks from Lidl.

After trying one of them I used the other to re-sole my shoe

Ahh...this combined with Ms T's comments make me thing I might give the meat a swerve. That's a shame, cos the steaks from Aldi are good - not the greatest steaks ever, but pretty good for £2.99.

Pootle, the Medalisk back bacon and Grangedale(various types) pork sausages are fine. We don't eat beef unless it's highland cow or lamb so no idea what it's like.

monday - but that's not good if I am buying Sunday lunch :(

I see what you mean! You'd probably be fine with a nice bit of lamb or beef though.

They won't touch that. They like the more expensive Opticat, which comes in sachets -- oh, but not the purple or dark green ones, the fussy buggers.

Has Lidl got those £1.20 chocolate easter bunnies again this year?

I think I might just splash out.....who can deny a child's delight? It's only money afterall ;)

They had stacks of easter related chocolate goodness when I was in there. Another bonus point to Lidl is all the yummy european chocolate rather than the crappy english chocolate we get. So many marzipan based yummyness.

This is something I am going to have to try hard to avoid I reckon. Bah!

marzipan...mmmhhh :)

on my lidl list is: toilet paper. olive oil, feta cheese, something sweet, and whatever i can dig out of the basket bargains.

so far i have purchased: christmas deco, a boule game, lots of stationary, a water tap and a toilet seat.

going to lidl is always a bit of an adventure, though it can go any direction from delightful up to horrible. they remind me from the clientel going there to the former kwik safe near the brixton rec.

when i am in germany i would prefer aldi over lidl i think.

my mum would not go near either of those two supermarkets, cheap shopping seems to be a more modern phenomenon.

'Whenever'???

You mean this has happened more than once??? Never noticed it before ...

We get Lidl-leafletted because the Old Kent Road** Lidls is so near. We got the latest leaflet only today, and were expressing similar bewilderment to posters above ...

**(that well known haunt of equestrianism!!)

there are actually stables in bermondsey, not very far from the old kent road. a short ride from lidl.

Lifted from a pdf document on Lambeth Councils website....(dated 2004)

The Ebony Horse Club has existed for nine years in the Coldharbour ward and it provides access to top quality horse riding instruction and mentoring for young people aged eight to seventeen years old. The club targets young people in danger of social exclusion, whether through school exclusion, home circumstances, health, or poverty. We are now planning a major expansion to build a top class horse riding facility at Loughborough Junction. The Ebony Horse Club is Britain’s biggest provider of access to horse riding for ethnic minorities and Brixton’s best kept secret!

Do you think it would last hat long in the fridge?

Given that beef is supposed to be aged, yes, especially if you've got a decent fridge.

indeed, it is my understanding that supermarket meat, to save on cost of hanging meat, sell it freshly killed, unlike traditional butchers.

Lidl is just about the only supermarket I use these days. On my shopping list:

Dulano ham
The butter called 'butter'.
Proviact live yoghurt, plain and vanilla
Parmesan
Horseradish soft cheese - highly moreish..
74% bitter chocolate
The Ocean Sea smoked salmon steaks - excellent for fishy stir fries.
Tinned toms, kidney & butter beans, sardines and mackerel fillets.
Coshida cat food

Tomatoes, kiwis, celeriac, broccoli, red onions - although I don't tend to buy a lot of fruit/veg from there, I have been impressed with the flavour of what I have bought. Perhaps there's less insistence on uniform appearance so tastier varieties manage to make their way onto the shelves. You need to check for freshness though.

They have the Motorbike stuff on special next week. Got a decent pair of boots & a good bike cover from that before. :)

Thanks for the heads up - I got a brilliant tank bag and a new lock :)

This is more like it, for Brixton.

I was intrigued to see the Lidl website has a 'Property' section.

My hopes of finding a cheapo property ;) were dashed on the discovery that it referred to retail sites. :(

Incidentally, Lidl has got a very bad reputation in Germany re worker's rights, casualisation, and non-representation etc. , bit of a german wal-mart

link

(I haven't really looked into the details but I suppose it's nothing that would come as a shock to anyone in the UK though...)

I don't think they're great here either.. my brother worked at the one in Sydenham and they treated him appallingly - although no worse that Tescos tbh...

So - I'm off to Lidl tonight to get myself a gel saddle for my bike and some other bits and then I see that they do special cycling pants. Brilliant. But no:
This product is ONLY available from stores in South Wales, Aberystwyth, Hereford and Gloucestershire.

WTF?
