Is lidl like aldi? i hate that place.

they are similar.

but their products of course vary. ie different brands in each shops. generally cheap quality of course.

my mum would never go to either of them (although my dad recently discovered aldi and goes sometimes)

I have only been to aldi once and it made me claustrophobic...everyone was trolley bashing, fighting over cheeses and the woman on the checkout was throwing my daughters shopping back in the trolley so quick everything was dented or cracked...i havent dared to go back. :(

Are Lidl selling crack?;)

Stollen bread crack yes! :D

I got my Stollen yesterday and some chocolate xmas tree ornaments. They have got pannetonne too :)

I nearly got one of those duvets but decided I don't really need a single duvet but it is a very good price.

I shop at lidl and waitrose. I think it's the perfect combination of supermarkets

I stopped myself buying stollen the other day, I thought it was a bit too early... might get some next week though :D

I decided I ought to get some now in case they sell out. I'm not going to open it till xmas though - I checked the sell by and it's good until January 8th

Obviously if they still have them next time I go I'll get another one and eat this one :D

oh and on the cheap supermarket items topic.

i saw an ad in the tube yesterday for a flat screen telly at asda for just over 100 pounds...!¿

i don´t even know where asda comes from USA isn´t it¿

Asda was originally a British company, but they were bought up by Wal-Mart (big US company with a very bad labour relations record) several years ago.

You should have got one. After all, aren't you obliged to do a quality control check to make sure they're up to standard? ;)

Don't say that  there were boxes and boxes of them!

Ok, I'm getting one (or two) this weekend! :o

You're right, it is my duty to make sure they're up to scratch this year ;)

I've already bought a stollen from the local market for a quid last weekend and I'm down to the last slice already. :D

I don't like it, the queues are always stupidly long with only one checkout open. Although Netto used to do a nice rose wine for £3. It closed down.

best snap them up...try one and if they're up to the usual quality buy in bulk as last year they went well before the run-up to xmas

got one and a giant Pandoro as well:D

And very smart you are, too!

Choc,
All Lidl and Aldi products are produced by main brand manufacturers; i.e. Nestle, Knorr, Heinz, etc, etc, etc. Same quality; lower price.

I do agree though that experiences vary depending of which area you go to. The one in Seven Oaks if fab; the one in New Cross is  scaaaaary!

ETA
And shame on me, Choc.... You did say quality

They sell Snacky Cracky cheese hearts, and oh dear! they are addictive! :D

They have some gorgeous orchids in our local one. I was tempted but didn't want it to get broken on the journey home so I'll need to go in with someone to hold it :o

I love Lidl but it has far too much floor space devoted to munchies ie. crisps, sweets, chocolate etc that is too cheap to resist. I spent close to a fiver on all the above the other day, munched on it all that evening and have never felt so sugared-up and sick.

The one near me has some sexy Eastern-European checkout girls too!

On the strength of this thread I popped into my local Lidl today. Quite unusual to see almost every single trolley overflowing – they don’t even bother with a 10 items or less lane. It was as if everyone in there was preparing to hunker down for a long, tinned and processed, nuclear winter.

I suppose it’s ideal for families on a low budget, but I’m fucked if I’m going to queue up for however long behind that lot with my bigger-than-I-want bag of roasted peanuts.

Nah, give me the deli counter and fresh fish, a good range of veg and consumer choice!

I'm lucky enough to have a new Aldi 5 mins away. It's always pretty civilised, and we've found if we go after work on Monday after work we never have to queue. I don't buy the fresh meat, although the salamis and hams etc are fantastic. The fresh fruit and veg is fine when you can get it, but limited choice. Everything else is great. We have a full service supermarket next door, and reckon our grocery bill is at least 25% less per week if we go into Aldi first, then get the rest next door. Then I spend all the money saved buying the Aldi specials - our best bargain this year was a fantastic 6 man tent for 100 euro. :D

no i have to say this is news to me...? i actually always think the quality of most things, pasta for example is not very good.

i am sure they won´t run out of stollen though, last year they had heaps..:D
