Lib Dems: heading to become the most right wing mainstream party in Britain?

i agree with treelover just being the same as the other parties is not going to succeed .there is been very little movement in the polls labour down a few points tories up a few points libs much the same .i think the electorate needs some one to point the way to something different from what we have had the past twentyfive years first with thatcher now with blair

People won't vote for something that is vastly economically different to what Blair, Major and Thatcher have offered us. Free markets, public services and a rather shity welfare net is where the voters 'centre of gravity', is.

The Lib Dems have never been a particularly right, or left wing party. 50% income tax for the top 1% of earners or not they are still what they pretty much always have been.

The difference is they are Liberal, whilst Labour believe in a big powerful state and are quite authoritarian and the Tories are social conservatives. That hasn't changed in over a decade. And it its these values that divide the voters more than any other.

Liberals for Fascists

Oh come off it, it doesn't strike you as more than a little strange that Birtwistle considers it necessary to both "courteously" inform Burnley's BNP leader of his motion and to claim he does not speak to "any" BNP councillors. He's being disengenious. As I said, Birtwistle would have presumably been aware that without BNP support his motion would have failed. That they voted the same way was obviously premeditated and thus they were in an alliance. It was unprincipled because I believe all alliances with fascists are unprincipled - is that really so extreme?
