Agreed, Everton aren’t exactly playing fantasy football at the moment, but – and this may sound very stupid – I really don’t think it’s their job to do so at this stage of their development.

If they tried, they’d be tonked every other week and with the subsequent loss of confidence that goes hand-in-hand with inconsistent form, they’d be down there with the likes of Spurs and Newcastle. Maybe lower.

I think Everton have got the basics right first. Add a few more well-selected bargains like Cahill and Bent to the team in the summer and then they can start to ‘play’.

This is the old argument though - what do you want as a fan? If it's a choice between style of play and position?

Would you prefer Keegan's Newcastle or George Graham's Arsenal. One won the league, the other didn't.

What would you the paying fan want?

A Chelsea fan I know (he's old Chelsea) says that whilst he likes their current situation - the style of football is not his cup of rosy lee.

In this day and age, I think that result is king - and takes precedent over entertainment - which I think is a bit sad.
