Let's Salute The Magic Of Arsequake / Pigfuck / Whatever It's Called Music!

Oh, and Revolting Cocks, Pigface and Ministry count but Nine Inch Nails don't, ok?

Only just catching up on this but nt entirely sure why you say that NiN don't count. Trent Reznor was on a lot of the Revolting Cocks stuff and also recorded the original lyric for 1000 Homo DJs cover of Supernaut (the only reason this was not the original release version is due to TVT the record label not Reznor or Jourgensen).

Incidently Acid Horse were ace too, that was another Ministry side project oddly enough featuring Caberet Voltaire

There was always a lot of dub in amongst.. erm..all the other insanity :D
The last album - King of All Spaceheads - was pretty much a dub album. But a dub album made by Hieronymus Bosch :D

It had a track called In The St. Johns Ambulance Tent, Glastonbury 1989, which was in between Black Microdot I and Black Microdot II :D

That is indeed a great album

Just been checking Reyonolds on this and he insists The Young Gods were the key band for the 'arsequake league'...

but they didn't sound anythink like that atall? is that that Reynolds guy who wrote that book? huh! he just talks a load of fanny batter. i wouldn't go on his word if he told me it was raining.

Young Gods were musically more like laibach but with extra grandiose classical pretensions. i saw them a couple of times and they were a pretty good live act but did drag on a bit. i gave that 'rouge' lp of theirs a spin the other week when i was sorting out stuff to get rid of to the record & tape exchange. sadly, it didn't really stand the test of time and was quickly added to the 'flog' pile.

Exactly why i posted it. I saw them and they were actually pretty scary - the 'classical' bits more so than the others. But, you know, he was there on MM at the time and they were the ones using the term - but i wouldn't put them in their meyself. It's maybe just him emphasing the intellectual aspects of the term...i don't know.

Simon Reynolds, heh, John Peel read out some of his pretentious tosh on air for everyone to laugh at once. The Young Gods are phenomenal, or were, they're getting on a bit, their unplugged shows don't interest me and I thought going off to the amazon was a bit much. They don't have the scuzzy chaotic element that other bands mentioned here have.

Ok - biased reason: cos Reznor is a talentless dickwad who needs a fucking slap

Unbiased reason: because Nin were always a 'serious' outfit, and don't fit the fucked up pisstaking joy-in-horribleness sheer abandon and nihilism of the other bands mentioned.

Ok, think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Think I'd like to add king missile to the list though. Detachable Penis is a joy to behold

NO way NIN are totally diff. A guitarist/vocalist playing on some stuff isn't the same as that blokes later band being retrospectively allowed in.

NIN OUT!

anyone remember a band called 'headbutt'? think they were mates with terminal cheesecake etc.

i've got a weird 10" clear vinyl 'tribute to The Leather Nun" comp thing and their track is the best thing on it.

early Leather Nun stuff is phenomenal too ('prime moover' is an utter classic!)

Yeah, i'e got grey ep of theres - about 10 bassists or something. It's allright but it's why Head of David and that shouldn't be included. Not quite doing the same thing.

And if we're including more frantic stuff like Pussy Galore in this, then I'm nominating Bogshed.

Not heavy, but they ticked the boxes in terms of scratchy frenzy and speedy/acid weird/funny lyrics. I remember them covering Benny Hill's 'Gather In The Mushrooms' at one point. :D

Saw them supported by Pop Will Eat Itself when the latter were nearly unknown, this would have been about 17 or 18 years ago?

Before long Bogshed achieved their headliners' nearly unknown status ...

Must've been at least 20 years ago, because Bogshed split up in '87/88...

Before long Bogshed achieved their headliners' nearly unknown status ...

...-and that sentence nearly makes sense. :D

Bogshed were the business.

I never liked PWEI; without exception, grebo was shit.
