yes but the ref didn't see it. He was not even going to bring out a yellow until Ronaldo got involved.

Still a cunt for stamping on someones bollocks though, whatever the ref did or did not see.

Rooney = cunt
Ronaldo = cocksucker

Of course, it's inconceivable that Ronaldo was genuinely outraged that some thug had stamped on a team-mate's knackers....

To be fair, while I think Rooney did deserve to be sent off (even if the ref didn't see the incident and got it wrong!) I didn't see any outrage on Ronaldo's part, just sheer opportunism.

Especially when one considers where he's allowed to make a very decent living.

In my experience, when people see their team-mates horrifically fouled, their outrage is genuine - and this is so even though they're not similarly outraged when the boot is on the other knackers.

But you're talking generally. SPECIFICALLY, i saw no indication of outrage on Ronaldo's part.

Ronaldo might be a wank, but Rooney'e a bigger wank.

He's done fuck all in this tournament and has been found. And don't give us any shite about his injury.

Just watched the footage again, and it seems that the ref blew his whistle just before the stamping, probably for an England free kick, since Rooney had been pulled down. Eejit.

"So we have our pantomime villain. He's a pretty boy, he's foreign, he's cunning and conniving. He's perfect. But as always, millions of distraught England fans have fingered the wrong man in Cristiano Ronaldo. If you take away all the bluster and barely suppressed xenophobia, there are are only two people to blame for the incident that will define England's exit: Wayne Rooney and, to a lesser extent, the referee Horatio Elizondo."

I think Man.Utd may just pip Chelsea for most hated team this season. Ronaldo and Rooney, the dumb and dumber of the Premiership.

Wasn't there a thread in which we were invited to predict who would be to blame for England's exit? I'm sure I predicted the ref.

As the barman said to me, in English even more limited than my Spanish: "Inglaterra...poor".

Rooney's a fuckwit. He deliberately studded that bloke in the goolies with serious force, its an evil thing to do. Not only that, right in front of the ref. Love the way Ronaldo gets blamed for it in the British press!!!!

i think its time for footballers to take some kind of IQ test before they are allowed to play for England. Rooney's thick and he played like a cu*t

It's hard to tell from the footage if Rooney's stamp was intentional - but what I know for sure is that if you get your testicles stamped on then you will be incapacitated for some time. It looks like Rooney's heel caught the Portugese player in his lower abdomen / upper groin. So enough of talk about knackers / nads etc..

It looks like the whole reason Rooney got sent off was for his reaction to Ronaldo's pleas to the ref. for exactly that. Rooney was wrong to react to Ronaldo - but getting people sent off by influencing the ref. / goading the opposition doesn't strike me as good football. No matter how 'pretty' you are.

In the sense that the axe "caught" Anne Boleyn's neck?
In the sense that the pain and effect are v. different.

Best way to understand this is to get a mate to kick / punch you in different places and you'll find out some are worse than others. If you don't know this then you don't know...

I'd personally prefer a stamp to my upper groin than my testicles. The pubic bone can take a bit more punishment than your genitals.

Try it and see. :p

P.S. Having your head cut off is also very different. Not a good analogy. It's either on or off (number of chops not withstanding).

And I forgot to address the real issue here (slaps forhead) - 'caught' as in it's not clear what Rooney intended - sticking his foot out for balance or to stamp on the guy. I favour the latter - but the footage I've seen doesn't make it clear either way.

I agree . Rooney deserved to go and no matter how much of a twat Ronaldo is , the fact remains England could have scored after Rooney had been sent off but they didn't . If you don't take your chances then don't blame the opposition if you lose !

Spot on.

Prior to the stamping incident [for which I agree Rooney was rightly sent off] does anyone not think that Rooney should have been awarded a foul for having two Portugese players trying to drag him down? Imagine if Ronaldo had been in that situation? Would he have stayed up and fought for the ball or dived and rolled around like the cheating cunt he is ? Time to decide, is Footy a contact sport or do we go down the basketball route, make your mind up because if it's the latter I need to find myself another sport to follow!

I agree with that, and fair play to Wayne for not being a fairy (I also agree that no excuse can be made for what he did to that chaps knackers).

i thought the whistle had been blown before the stamp as well. when they played it on the screen in normal time, there was the accidental stand on the portugese bloke's foot, then the whistle and as the ref was coming over rooney stepped on the bloke's unmentionables. also someone i was watching it with thought that his leg was trapped between the player on the floors leg and he couldn't have got out of it.

Yes I think he was sent off for pushing Ronaldo.

Edit: Sven is certain it was for the bollock attack, so fuck knows. Whatever, I'm glad he went, awful stuff.

Exactly, one of my mates once got hit playing cricket without a box, it left him bed-ridden and in agony for 5 days, so just think what a football boot being stamped down would do. Even if you're not hospitalised you won't be getting up as soon as the ref's flashed his card.

I started this thread not to bring into question the right or wrong of Rooney's dismissal but to vent my anger and disgust at a player who has come to typify a lot of what is wrong with football at the highest level these days. No one in their right mind condones stamping, gouging or violent conduct in football. However players like R*****o are increasingly using vile means to achieve their own ends and are getting away with it. If FIFA had any balls they would review footage of all events like this and apply the law accordingly. Yes, suspend Rooney for violent conduct but they also must start to deal with dispicable cheats who take the game to appalling low levels.
