Let's hear it for Wasabi Peas

The peas are deep fried (I think)

They're dry and crunchy, rather than fresh.

It is impossible to leave some for later should you start eating them when you have the munchies :hmm:

You're probably right, biddly. Best stay out of it. Probably better for all concerned. Somewhere around here does them posh rice pringles for like 60p a can. Don't know where, but every now and again Mr Paw comes home with a can of them. That'll do me. None of this 'peasbutnotpeasdrycrunchycardboardit'llmakeyoureyeswaterbut'lltasteweird' malarky.

My last post was to Biddly's 'I don't think you'd like them VP' post.

But now fogbat's got me all flustered. Perhaps I would like them then? Holland & Barrett had these crunchy chilli things once and although the idea was a good one in reality I didn't like them and was eating them because I thought I should like them. The whole experience was quite upsetting. I don't want to go through that with wasabi peas.

Perhaps you should persuade someone else to buy some. That way, if you don't like them you've not wasted any money :)

the dried peas are kind of tasteless

the wasabi is somewhere between horseradish and mustard... it is amazingly sharp and will go straight through your nasal passage and make you cry however unlike mustard the burn does noyt linger s it is over quickly so it is amasingly refreshing

That's a good point, fogbat. I'm not sure who I could persuade though. I don't know many people who shop in M&S. Plus, they closed the one in Newcastle-u-Lyme (it was one of those stand-alone ones), and the only one left is the one in the M&S in Hanley. And I don't really like going in there. It's weird. Perhaps someone could post me 3 wasabi peas. I think that's probably enough to make a decision. Although, perhaps the transit through the RM system might spoil them in some way. I'd never know if that was actually what wasabi peas tasted like or not.

Edit: Biddly, great minds :D

I've never had horseradish (I remember my parents having some in the fridge at home but being told not to eat it because I wouldn't like it), and I think I've only ever had mustard once when I was young, Colemans no doubt, and I didn't like that either.

I like chilli (is it 1 l or 2 ls? I never know), but not really, really strong that it makes my cry. So maybe I won't like them then.

So are they very good if you've got a cold and are bunged up? :D

I think the Peas by Post scheme is the best idea in the short term.

Once VP's properly addicted, we can start charging "Export Fees" :hmm:

I never noticed it come back out either. The key. Perhaps it's still in there.

Also, when I was taking my GCSE maths exam, a rain beetle fell from the roof of the sports hall down my top. Now it's important to the story to say the top was one of those nasty leotard-type things with the poppers in the gusset (it was 1994, so don't be looking at me like that, fashion nazis). I never found the rain beetle either.

VP, they have oodles of wasabi peas in Derby so next time you're in town drop me a PM and I can guide you in the right direction :) I'd offer to post some down the road like but I'm rubbish at remembering to do stuff like that.

not read the thread but YAY for wasabi peas!

and death to the vile imposters: wasabi peanuts and wasabi macadamias*

*i know it sounds like a good idea but actually they suck.

Ooo yeah one of my work colleagues bought wasabi peanuts from Holland and Barrett the other day. Said they were very disappointing which is a shame. On the other hand a friend of mine bought wasabi cashews back with him from Canada a while back and they were bloody delicious.

They serve 1/2 pints of them at the pub I go to after work on a Friday sometimes.

I love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
