Let's give a big hand for scallops

Yum

Never tried them. If they are wobbly fishy sandy bits of pink stuff that looks like the underside of a cows tongue like I expect them to be then I'll give them a miss thanks :)

Dear oh dear. :( (((Yetman)))

Yetman, have a look at that picture and think of the lovely scallopy taste with a touch of butter, chilli, & garlic. Laid on a fesh salad.

I only like prawns, cod and John Dory because they don't taste too fishy. Do they taste anything like any of the above?

I can't eat anything that's too fishy, and they don't taste fishy at all. Quite a subtle meat taste to be honest.

Try a bag of small frozen ones from Tesco and experiment with adding flavours to them. :)

I remember as a kid on holiday in the Isle of Man, eating fresh scallops and queenies.

I can't remember what a queenie is now though.

I think it might just be a big scallop, or a slightly different type of shell fish.

I'm not sure I'd like the texture. They have a slimey look to them

Do people eat the orangey bit of flesh as well or just the white flesh?
The orangey bit is delicious. If you can get it (see my complaining earlier in the thread about the roe). I often use them to make a sauce though, basically very very gently cooked with some finely diced sweated shallots and white wine and plenty of butter and then blended to a cream, OMFG delicious.

Yes, I eat the orangey bit too. It's got more taste than the white flesh. You can usually buy the orangey bit too if you buy whole scallops fresh in their shell. Was just wondering if other people ate the orange bit as well.

So far this could be summarised, with one of two noble exceptions as: Scallops: the seafood for people who don't like fish.

I don't dislike the things, just find them a bit overrated in the bang per buck ratio. I'd prefer a decent prawn dish tbh, or something tastier like lobster and crab if I was buying. I'll wolf the things down in fact, but they don't leave much impression.

Yes, I like prawns, but they don't even look slimey. Oysters look slimey as well as scallops

Just give them a go. You'll thank me. ;)

Just get a frozen bag from Tesco, that way you haven't wasted too much money if you absolutely hate them, which you won't.

Here's a Tesco recipe too:

Simples :)

Coat them in a little curry powder, gently fry in olive oil and garlic - they take no longer than a minute each side. Serve them with a decent salad.

Nom.

Afaik queenies are wee little scallops aren't they? The button mushroom equivilant.

Iirc not as great as big old ones.
