I've sowed some corguettes (although they said marrow underneath am i gnna get marrows? i don't like them!!) peas, runner beans, alicante toms, and some thyme tonight.

Go moon!!

hehehe:D

Courgettes turn into Marrows if you let the buggers too big, I left one of mine too long last year when I was on my Holz and in one week the lovely courgette ended up like giant loofa:(
:D

Yes madamv, I'll ask him when I visit weekend after this. I suspect it's the weather combined with proper feeding and care, but I'll try and check the variety.

I have a question

Help!
One of my veg plots is under a Hawthorn tree, its a raised bed and gets sun all day (the tree doesn't shade the plot), last year the soil was very dry and ran through the fork like sand so I have added well rotted manure and compost to the soil.

I think the tree will probably take most of the water and nutrients from the plot but is there anything that will thrive in that sort of location with a little care and attention.

I currently have onion sets, some cabages and brussel sprouts which didnt really grow.

This is like gardeners question time..innit!

You could try pruning the tree back and manuring the living daylights out the raised bed, might work

I quite like the tree so I'll just keep adding organic matter to the soil.

I've just read that plants like carrot and beetroot should not be transplanted, i planted loads of beetroot in pots so it looks like they wont produce anything as the roots dont like beeing disturbed.
Should I re sow them in plugs or directly in the ground? And also which other veg should I avoid planting in pots?

Plugz now under glass, directly in the ground in May

I had some luck with Chilli's not last year but the year before, only Birds Eye but flamin' hot and plenty of them. Still got half a pot of dried ones.
So this year I am about to try my hand at a more exotic variety of chilli's and have purchased the following seeds to sow at the end of the month:

Bolivian Rainbow

Sundews, that's the way to deal with greenfly :D
Nice, just looked them up. I may add some to my arsenal of organic greenfly spray, washing up liquid and onions.

I grew Marbles last year, didn't have much taste at all, but then I had a bad years for chillis all round last year. Not enough care, time under glass or direct sun I suspect.

Lambeth Council have just announced they're erecting scaffolding in my garden along my south facing wall from April until August. Gauranteed to mess up all my new raised beds and planting - disaster.
