Let the Right One In.

I like the way the Swedes keep producing interesting and engaging kid based films such as Lukas Moodysson's "Tillsammans", "Lilya 4-ever" and Lasse Hallström's wonderful "Mitt Liv Som Hund". And now we have this one.

The film, like the above, is a story that is well told - beginning, middle and an end. Unlike American films the kids are never 'in your face' they just get on with it. Like lots more folk I think this is a fantastic film and no doubt will eventually become a classic and one that deserves more than one viewing.

As for the American re-make. I concur with poului's post. They should quite simply fuck off and bow their heads in shame until such time as they can make a genuine contibution to world cinema.
:p

they do that everyday

First trailer for the remake. Seems to be much the same, as far as you can tell from a 70 second clip.

I dunno, there are hints there that it's including more of the back story from the book - I think this version is supposed to be sticking more to the book, in which case it'll be more horrific than the Swedish original (which was brilliant).

If they've stuck more to the book, it might work well as a film in its own right.

The director of the remake made big claims that he was going to completely re-adapt the book, concentrating on aspects that hadn't been filmed or where only hinted at. Surprise, surprise, by all accounts the remake looks like a carbon copy of the original, only toned down, not nearly as lyrical and with all ambiguities removed. There are many instances in the trailer where shots have been lifted from the original, only they are in the same murky colours of so many US horror films instead of the chilly shallow focus look of the original. The two child actors in the original were both so amazingly good and so unusual looking and I get irritated seeing just the cutesy moppet they cast as the girl (the original actress looked like a baby PJ Harvey)

I read the novel and the original film took all the best elements from it and made it into something better. This will just be the same travesty that most remakes of great foreign films end up being.

grrr, just about to sit down and watch this. And what do I find? It's a fucking dubbed version. Even more evil than a remake. Bastards.

if i could find one, I would. But I cant. It is available free on lovefilm, but I dont like watching movies on the computer

subs are usually included. u just have to activate them. if they're not included u can dload them separately.

It would be such a shame to watch this on youtube, this is a visually stunning film. What you get is indeed "a good story". What you don't get is a great film. :(
