Let the Right One In.

camouflage

gaslit at scale.
This horror story by Swedish writer John Ajvide Lindqvist, about a little by who's bullied at school and the little vampire girl who lives next door. Anyone read it? Pretty good but very dark in places. Only criticism is the head-fuck revelation midway in, and a particularly horrifying scene toward the end.

And during the course of writing this post I've just discovered they made it into a film!:)

The film is fucking awesome. Watched it last week. One of those ones you download on the off chance, and yeh - it delivered. Oddest vamp movie I've ever seen.

Let The Right One In

I watched this the other night & wanted to show it some love.

It's a Swedish Vampire film but it's nothing like any Vampire film I'd ever seen. It's more a coming of age story than anything else. The child leads are great in it & it's looks amazing.

Not sure what kind of release this is getting here, but make the effort to track it down & you won't be disappointed.

*I've just found out it's based on a book, to the library with me.

It's been out in the cinema already (well it has been at my local Picturehouse), it's very good indeed.

Ooh, I think brainaddict was enthusing about this last night. Will have to track it down.

It's a good film about what alienation can push you into but basically told through a coming of age/vampire story. It's actually far better than that sounds - and far darker than you might imagine. First hour is very good indeed, 2nd hour not so - and the whole thing was rather let down by the nauseatingly emotional melodramatic music throughout. I think a lot of the praise recently is abit OTT but a lot of it is deserved. Def worth watching.

edit: Oh yeah, and Herbert Morrison and William Morris make unexpected guest appearances.

The book is seriously dark, good though. The film's not as dark but is much easier to watch than the book was to read. Beautifuly shot as well.

It's a fucking wonderful film. Best horror film of the decade as far as I'm concerned and an instant classic. :)

His second book, 'Treating The Undead'(sp?), is even better.
It's about zombies, but not as in the usual sense of monsters and gore, it's more like a psychological thriller which happens to have zombies in it...

(Author's name: Jon Ajvide Lindqvist)

It's available on bluray and hi-def download now from all the usual places.

Downloaded it over the weekend - will try and watch it this week.

There's a fair bit cut out of the book, but I think they were successful in editing it into a coherent film (unlike a lot of other book>film adaptations). Some of the extra scenes featuring Håkan might have descended into farce onscreen, for example.

And yes - the cinematography was superb - very bleak, but beautiful. Christ knows what the US remake will look like, though..

Great film, keep trying to get my teenage daughter who loves that shite vampire goth film, Twilight, to watch it as it's loads better.

It has beauty on different levels.

The cinematography is very good - snow is used excellently, a stark contrast to the night, the blood and the violence.

The awkward dancing, utterly innocent and guileless.

The relationships are all very well done and there was always a sense of reality.

All that will be shat on, however, by the american remake. See this one quickly.

I doubt that I'll see anything better than this one this year. Very imaginative, brilliantly realised. It was more humorous than I was expecting too - and the denouement was superb.

I watched it this afternoon w Jefe. It's beautiful and such a sparse script!

I love vampire films that present the bleak, sad side of the condition rather than the highly sexed hollywood variety. The ending is pretty sinister after you mull it over as well.
