Leopard!

So... has 10.5.1 shagged Azureus for anyone else?
Since I updated, running Azureus sets of some pretty horrendous kernel panics (very frequent, several per day), all of which trace back to the same thing on the "send report to apple" thing that comes up when I restart. It only happens when Azureusis running, and is pretty dependable. This is seriously annoying.
Anyone else have this problem and/or a work-around (or suggestion for another torrent client)?
Thanks!

Transmission is my torrent client. Although I'd go for version .94, as .95 has a weird bug on my system that results in no data being written to the destination file. Otherwise, It's great - and far, far less of a resource hog than azureus.

Azureus is fine on mine - but I don't use Airport on that machine. Try transmission as Crispy says, I've not used it as it used to be banned from one of my private trackers (all of which have been shut down I now I think).
XTorrent is another alternative but I can't recommend it, really. I don't like the author.

Transmission is allowed pretty much everywhere now, I think. BitmeTV still officially bans it, but they have 'experimental' permissions. I've never run into trouble anyway.

Thanks all :)! Lazy Llama- that's exactly the kind of error, though I just have a standard Macbook. It does seem like a driver issue to do with Airport. I even considered whipping out my old USB WiFi dongle to see if using that makes a difference.
However, I may just use Transmission instead of Azureus. I noticed that 0.95 is banned on what.cd due to some glitch but 0.94 is permitted.

See...now:

I fucking *heart* transmission; beautifully light-weight and functional, everything a torrent client should be....and yet:

More and more recently I am coming across torrents which just give me "Error - Forbidden" all the fucking time and it is driving me batshit.

I ended up going back to Azureus recently to download a bunch of comics and - jebus fuck - what the hell is the "vuze" thing?

It has turned into hideous, image-ridden, spamming, pointless-function-infested bloatware and it is still baffling hard on a system all things considered - yet, it managed to happily download everything that Transmission couldn't.

I mean: What the fuck

 :(

Version 0.95 (the current) has some odd bugs.

Hm - I think 94 gave me the same problems with these torrents though.....and one of them kept giving me Panics......possible 94 again......until the latest update.

I don't know what version you're running but mine looks like this:

(no vue - I think that's an add-on you've added)

Hm - I went to the new Azureus.com and it had this all new, all singing, all dancing, all crap version.

Maybe I should have looked harder!

:)

Just download and amend the preferences so that none of the vuze crap shows up and the screen goes straight to your torrent details. I must say, I haven't quite pinned it down yet but I suspect the java on Azureus does something weird to my internet connection but it could just be the crappy BeThere Thomson SpeedTouch router that can't cope with all the connections...or our line to the exchange is shit...or maybe the Airport on my mac is fucked....dunno.

PS. Transmission is on .96 now, which fixed the bugs in .95.

Does Azureus have uPnP functions? If so, it can set the ports on the router autmoatically. Transmission has uPnP and it sets ports on my Bebox no problems.

Kewl will head back to Transmission then!

Hey I've got my extended evaluation copy of Leopard from a friendly server somewhere, but how is everyone's experiences shaping up? Still on Tiger and I did my first full backup since my last reinstall last night using ProSoft's Data Backup and it was simple and easy enough but I sat there wistfully thinking about TimeMachine in Leopard...

Anyhow, is anyone having a negative experience such that they are thinking of downgrading back to Tiger????

Leopard is an expensive and almost pointless upgrade for most people. Its just the same thing as tiger with a bit more bloat and a nasty messier visual style. I havn't upgraded my work computer, but if I had - I would have regretted it. My girlfriend has it on her MacBook and its as-slow as her G4 was with Tiger, the bloke next to me has it at work too. I've not seen one bit of it which makes me think 'gee, that looks really useful and interesting - I must upgrade!'. Even 'prime' features such as 'Time Machine' uselessly need a big noisy hard drive to be bought and plugged into the back to actually make it useful, a good example here of why that just isnt a useful feature for 98% of users. This also makes me laugh if we hark back to that photo of a svelte iMac next to a messy Dell desktop - they didnt show a big external hard drive on the iMac version clogging up the desk space - something which would almost be essential to use one of the 'main' features in Leopard. The great thing about the Dell is that you can not only shove another hard drive inside the tower (which would also be cheaper) for Vista's 'previous versions' feature, but you could also just shove the whole thing underneath the desk anyhow.

Tiger is great. Leopard just looks like another money making excersise from Apple.

Some people faced a "blue screen of death" on installation, because of third-party plugins. Apple held its nose at them - but the reality is that as Mac ownership continues to grow, there will be more people like that, and wider beta testing is needed to iron out bugs before they reach the paying public. Leopard is a big, black mark on Apple's record. I doubt even Britney will want it.

*Sigh* The "blue screen of death" was due to people using a program that messes with Tigers fundementals. The same program that people are warned against running on any production system as its known to cause problems. And then they installed Leopard over it.

Good to see journos not researching properly and posting bollocks to help carry a story...

Weird because my G4 laptop runs noticeably faster. I also have a Intel Mac Mini that runs faster...

When I first installed Leopard I was a bit "meh" about it. But after using it for a while things feel snappier, workflow is easier once you get used to stacks, network operations are faster, etc... Also Safari is now blazingly fast...

Its not as much as an upgrade as Tiger was, but then at lot of the changes are under the hood. Its more of refinement of things that were ok in Tiger than anything revolutionary... I'd install it, but make sure you have a back-up first...

Businesses in "attempting to make money" shocker!

A top tip on getting round this, is to not buy a hard drive from 1989.

I have a slimline, whisper quiet portable 160Gb drive connected to mine. Works great and cost me 60 quid.

Yes, it would have been nice if it had supported LAN backup out of the box, but still......it is do-able.

It works great for me - quicker than Tiger and the new features work fine for me.

All good.

It's actually Tiger with a little less bloat, more efficient code, faster Finder, more 64-bit code and fully certifiable UNIX. It runs quicker than Tiger on my desktop and my gfs laptop by quite a margin. I haven't had any problems with it now that most of my software has updated. I still use Tiger at work and it's annoyingly slow, especially the Finder and search functions and I miss Spaces.

I think you're getting confused with Vista.
