Slaps thigh, guffaws, laughs hysterically....remembers that so many people reading that comment must be doing exactly the same thing, because - get this - we all have seen you in action before.

NOTE TO NEWBIES: Never argue with 'editor', he's been on these boards so long now he doesn't know how to not twist people's words to suit his own agenda.
I haven't twisted any words at all. I've simply asked you to back up the rather astonishing claim you just made:

And let's face it - most Mac users only need to read a couple of your dismissive and unpleasant slices of invective before they decide that Urban isn't a fun place to be for them. I mean, you don't exactly make them feel welcome, do you, sunshine?
Will you back this up with some examples of these supposed Mac-user repelling "invective" now please?

Thanks.

I thought we sorted this out about 6 Mac/PC threads ago.

Someone conclusively diagnosed Ed as being 'mentally unstable' or something for having his Mac views. That should surely have cleared it up once and for all ;)

I'd be careful there. I'd be putting in a few more smilelys to make sure that someone knew that it wasn't meant to taken 100 % seriously... :D :D :D and :D

Especially not about Palm
Seeing as you're (predictably) shoving in your oar with the usual digs, how about getting back on topic and telling me if you agree with rocketman's claims that "most Mac users" are being put off posting here because of the supposed "dismissive and unpleasant slices of invective" that I post up?

If so, could you give some examples from, say, the last week or two because rocketman doesn't seem too keen on backing up his own words and I certainly have no recollection whatsoever of posting up such material.

I'm getting really fed up with all these digs by the way. They might have been amusing once but it's just going on and on now and sticking a few smileys on the end doesn't make them funny. Why not just argue the topic instead of the man?

I love the stink of 'righteous indignation'
Your unprovoked and unproven personal attacks are only reflecting badly on you, you know, so why not post up some examples to substantiate your claim?

I've asked several times now and I'm sorry to say that your refusal to back up your claims is beginning to look like, well, you're a bit of a liar on this one.

So could you give me some examples of these "dismissive and unpleasant slices of invective" that are so awful that they are likely to send "most Mac users" fleeing please?

I've never used Vista.

Had nothing but grief from XP, ME, 2000, and whatever other loosely patched flavours of hell Microshite has served up over the years though so my vote is not going to be for Vista, but I thought I'd point out that I've never actually used it.

Of course it could be that Vista is the answer to my dreams of a smooth-running swift virus-free OS (other than the OSX Leopard I already use).

I shall certainly have a play with it at the first opportunity.

OK I use both Leopard and Vista (and XP) and generally I prefer the interface of Visa, the look of Leopard, and the compatibility of XP.

So they're all equally good/bad in their own separate areas.

I don't think it's for you (or for me either, come to think of it), but for undemanding punters looking for a pretty, consumer-friendly, easy to use OS , Vista's really not bad at all.

I set one up a while ago and it was an absolute breeze - I've never set up networking and parental controls so quickly before!

And despite Windows' lamentable past record on security, Vista is a pretty secure OS now - as that recent hacking competition proved.

So they're all equally good/bad in their own separate areas.
Absolutely.

I installed it on a new pc and I find it just this. Simple, no bother and so far stable.

I'd like to try leopard just cause I'm bored shitless with windows
and don't need as many apps as previously,
unfortunately I'd have to buy a mac to use it and that aint happening,.,.

No, you don't.

Admittedly you have to be a bit clued up to do it (and have compatible hardware), but it's really not that difficult.

no it's not and no it isn't.

eta: Here's some of the differences. http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/comparing_linux_and_freebsd.

Also, OSX is based on BSD, not linux.

Um... Doesn't anyone have a sense of humour these days...? I even put a simile and everything... Saying that BSD is dead is a joke that's been around for a while. (And yes, I know that OS X is based on BSD...) :D

Me said:
Its an obsolete type of Linux nobody uses and is dead. :D

I still haven't used Vista. Considering I'm a bit of a Windows-phile, that's a bit of a surprise (at least to me).

I really want to get round to playing with Mac OS X though. I might try to get hold of a cheap hard drive to give it a go.

Given that part of the appeal of OS X lies in it's tight performance and relative stability, I am not sure how much of the experience you will get trying to run a shonky copy on PC hardware!

Unless its a hard-disk on a Mac, it will be like trying to evaluate Vista on inadequate hardware. If you haven't got one, the best thing to is to borrow one for a few days to try it out...

...If you've got the time, the energy, the technical expertise, the patience, the right hardware, the right disks and drivers and the confidence.

So you gonna offer me a job then? :)

But seriously, I already alluded to that in my post. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but it's a bit of a hobby of mine, building machines and I don't consider myself to be any kind of expert. Judging by the expertise floating around on here, many people on this forum would have little difficulty building one for themselves if they had the inclination. To reiterate it really isn't that difficult and there's loads of online help availlable.

There's even people selling premade ones if you look around.

I'm not too fussed about that. I just want to get used to the interface before I consider a full switch.

Interestingly enough, it took me quite a while to come over to the Mac side. I got Appled by stealth really:

Bought a Mac Mini purely because I wanted something very small and very neat to connect to the TV in the lounge to play downloaded movies and music through the surround system.
I had a play with one, liked the Front Row interface and the bundled remote and the price was right, so I went for it.

It wasn't love at first sight and having been a Windows man for many years, I had to change a few preconceptions about how an OS and it's associated GUI should work and I had a few hard XP habits to break, but the more time we spent together the more I fell for her petite white curves.

Of course, when I suddenly realised I liked OSX more than Windows, I showed my appreciation by two timing her for a shiny new Macbook Pro with Leopard on.

There's gratitude for you.
