Lennon 25 years after his assasination

Do you have anthing against
Martin Luther King, Mandela or Rosa parks?

Hmmm..... let me see. Rosa Parks, certainly not: took direct action & got the goods.

Martin Luther King - religious nutter.

Nelson Mandela - sold out the South African working class and settled for secular sainthood instead.

Will that do? :)

;)

I'm reassessing views on 'the person of the last century' based on the posts. I never knew Gandhi and Lennon were so horrid.

even without the criticisms of Lennon - even if he was everything you believed him to be - do you really think he was the 'person of the last century'. Really?

No, but neither do I know who was :D

I see it's still fashionable to hate The Beatles.
I don't hate the Beatles in the same way I don't hate the Rolling Stones.

I don't think enough of either to bother to hate them.

Sexy Sadie what have you done
You made a fool of everyone
You made a fool of everyone
Sexy Sadie, ooh, what have you done

I don't think he's the man of the 20th century by any means, although if that's what he means to someone, who are we to judge? I just don't think he deserves the vilification he seems to be getting. Bit over the top I think.

And he did write good songs.

I think John Lennon was at his best when he was playing rock'n'roll songs. I like his voice in Twist and Shout when he was in the Beatles, he sounds soulful. I also like his Rock'n'Roll album, and how he sings Angel Baby (it's in another record, can't remember what it's called).

I quite like some of the late Beatles stuff, but Lennon was a cock.

Imagine no possesions?
Like the fur coats that he rented an entire air conditioned appartment on Park Avenue for, just to store them?

I imagine that Chapman had just heard this dirge one to many times.

I like the :) psychedelic :) stuff, but it's more to do with the sound than the personalities. They still sound good when you're tripping but I prefer new music. Does anybody listen to them on MDMA? No

Used to love him, now sort of hate him. When I get even older I'm sure I'll just see him as a talented but flawed person, just like everyone else does.

I'm not a huge fan, but I heard an interview with Lennon on the radio today. He was talking about how he was free to walk the streets in New York, whereas he couldn't do that in England. It was recorded only weeks before his murder and bought a tear to my eye.

Any of you seen that strange image on the back of this week's Radio Times that's a photographic depiction of what Lennon might look like if he was still alive?

Weird.

so anyway, and beatles fans want to buy a copy of the front pages of the standard from the day he died. original copy, perfectly preserved (in a manner that is taking up far too much space for one newspaper). i was going to frame it and sell it on ebay but if anyone wants to make a bid for it then go right ahead.

(it came from my dad's personal collection btw).

Well, I'm going to stick my neck out, I thought Lennon were great, yes he might have been an arsehole, but the choons!

Too many to mention, but without Lennon and Harrison the Beatles would have been pants.

I miss the bass on his solo stuff, too low in the mix, but still, great choons and that's what counts. And yes I've dug them choons on acid and MDMA, they're great psychadelic music.

And yes, his son did good at Leicester ;)
