Lemon Curd

Most shop-bought lemon curd is rubbish compared to home-made....remember to use unwaxed lemons, and I usually strain the eggs as I don't like those claggy bits of egg-white you get unless you strain the beaten egg.....

I know  :D

Can you get little taster pots, like you can with jam? Don't want to buy a whole jar if I might not like it ;)

You can certainly get taster pots of the cheeper not so good stuff...

Just buy a big jar of quality lemon curd and if you turn out to be some kind of oddball with bizaar tate buds you can always give the jar away to some normal person. :)

Ok, it's on my shopping list for next week :)

I've never tried it either. Although I do remember it being one of a host of fillings we could have for our sandwiches on a school hiking trip to Arran one year. I think it was that or jam or chocolate spread.... anyway, i didn't fancy the lurid yellow stuff anyway.

(i am sure there are nice ones, maybe I'll try it oneday..)

ok... I've tried it now - it's ok (nowhere near a patch on honey or jam though ;))... it tastes pretty much like the sweet layer in lemon meringue pie :D

tarte au citrone?

Only ok?

Do you not get excited over the thought of a delicious French style lemon tart, either?:)

lemon tart, lemon cake, lemon biscuits... yes :o

lemon curd... just ok really - tastes like it should be in something rather than eaten on it's own - maybe I got the wrong one

Home made or bought...and if bought what brand....I'm talking about the difference between mediocre and sublime...

I was lazy.. it was bought:

Well the best is home made. I've not tried that brand, but good lemon curd should be tangy and delicious on hot buttered toast. Proper bread, mind, not white sliced shite.

The bought onjes are never sharp enough for me. My gran used to make lime curd and grapefruit curd both of which were fantastic, although the first mouthful made your mouth pucker up like a cat's bum. :D
