It'd be nice if people used spoiler tags and artist/title description for these kinds of threads. Loads of vids cause lower spec machines to freeze and vids get removed from YT all the time.
That version sung by the Oysterband, who've made a career out of lefty folk-rock stuff, among my favourites of which is:
Last time I saw them, at Beverley Folk Festival the other year, John Jones said over the closing bit, 'All that way for this?! Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg, David Cameron, Nigel Farage, the whole fucking lot of them. Sorry for swearing, like, but these bastards make me angry!'
It's taken from the Channel 4 Dispatches programme People of the Shining Path, made back in 1992. It was filmed shortly before the army attacked the Canto Grande prison.
According to Comrade Mao 'the masses make history, the Party leads.'
The masses can end up growing sick of the Party...
Bit of a weird one this I knew Alistair Hulett when he was sixteen years old (still at school) and fell in love with his sister (as did most of the folk scene males in NZ) after a couple of years our ways parted and it was only someone on Urban that pointed me to the fact he went on to have a successful career as a protest singer (RIP).The odd thing is I went to work in Bougainville at the Panguna mine ( I'm still ashamed by that although in my defence I worked against the company CRA and established friendships with the locals).A top bloke, he taught me many Glasgow street songs and I still value his friendship. He went to OZ and did his thing I went to Ireland and our ways didn't cross again:
