Lefty party thread

hi bel .. yes old school labour has done well .. south wales as well .. but far left has ( apart from communalist mainly bombed .. wigan vote was good ) .. and iwca did badly too .. all not good :(

Labour splitters running as independents and People's Voice did well in Merthyr & Blaenau Gwent, with labour losing control of both those councils. They might lose Caerphilly too.

LL is claiming these

Preston, Riversway, Elaine Abbott - 99 votes, 7.2%, 5th place
Preston, St Matthews, Danielle Field - 61 votes, 5%, 4th place

As "very creditable result "[sic]

http://www.respectcoalition.org/?ite=1929

It's Abbot with one 't'.

And she wasn't just the Labour councillor for the ward until 2004, she was also the Respect candidate in 2004, 2005, 2006 ... and twelve months ago in 2007 when she scored 27% of the vote.

This has to be one of the biggest collapses in votes ever recorded. She was the only Preston candidate who described herself as 'Left List' - meaning that it was the third party name she had contested the ward as in 8 years.

To cap it all she was beaten by the fascists of the England First Party, and nearly beaten by the Greens.

Interesting result in Leeds (in the light of the official Green's support for Tory-led administration) - Alliance for Green Socialism beating Green Party:

the Greens dont actually support the coalition any more do they?* no need with the number of 'Morley independents' there are

* by 'any more' i mean before yesterdays votes

AGS have been contesting this ward for years (I think AWL supporter Garth Frankland was a Labour councillor, supporting Socialist Organiser, for it in earlier decades). They had a better result in 2004.

Garth wasn't in the AWL, tho his politics were very similar. He pretty much set up the group (under a duller name I temporarily forget) after Liz Davies was chucked out of the party. He was a councillor as Leeds Left Labour, or whatever it was, though.

No one other than Garth ever got much of a vote tho

He may not have been in the AWL - I did say 'supporter', perhaps 'fellow traveller' is more appropriate - but he was definitely in the 1980's WSL.
