Le Tour de France thread

Spooky indeed :D

Millars away in a break today, not much of a gap though and he's just punctured. Wind looks to be playing a part as well, lots of splits at the moment plus there's been a crash that has really shaken things up.

the 50kph into a tree one?

Don't think so, beeb site says Lilian Jegou smashed very nastily into a tree. A broken wrist, apparently, and the end of his Tour. Millar's was a puncture.

Is it just me or does Cadel Evans look like Steve Pemberton?

Evans is much better on the Tour Down Under, a local race for local people. :D

As I understand it, unless he bonks spectacularly Evans will probably just try to stay with anyone in the mountains before trying to blitz them in the TT, in much the same way as Indurain did. I can't see Valverde not attacking a lot though, because he knows climbing is his strength.

Yeah that was a good one...thought Columbia might have caught the breakaway too early at 4 clicks to go but it all worked out well:D

sweet. they used Dinosaur Jr quite appropriately on the end credits on ITV4:cool:

I wondered who it was. Got a song name? I noticed the other day they had a montage in tribute to the Gallic beauty of the French countryside, with a soundtrack by that most French of bands..... Radiohead.

No-one seems to have an answer to Cav's kick do they? I'm also surprised not to have seen McEwan contest any of the finishes yet.

Cav's on fire at the moment for sure.

Who was the poster who really disliked McEwan? Bet s/he is quite happy about the current state of affairs!

That would be me...if you mean the last few Tour threads. And yes, it couldn;t happen to a nicer fella :D:D

The way Ricco danced on those pedals, injected the acceleration and blew everyone away reminded me a bit of Pantani in his pomp. The way he descended the Col D'Aspin was very impressive too, keeping the peloton ata round 75secs the whole way.

Very much looking forward to the Tormalet and Hautacam tomorrow. There's bound to be lots of French attacks, it being Bastille Day and all, but Valverde is going to have to attack at some point if he's serious about getting to Paris in yellow.

Will Sastre now have to hand the CSC leadership over to Schleck? Sastre stayed with Evans, Ricco, et al, but he didn't put any attacks in. We're now through the Pyrenees and Schleck is one second off yellow.

Was that the mother of all bonks for Valverde today or what?

Spanish rider falls apart in the mountains shocker!!! :D interesting stage, enjoyed that. Don't think Schlek has the legs for it. Evans was impressive today, considering yesterday's crash.

Was back in work yesterday so didn't catch any live action, but saw the highlights. Ricco was looking very good. He just sat with the main favourites while his team mates worked Schlek over.

Sean Kelly was of the opinion that Ricco isn't seen as a threat by the other teams as he's a poor time-triallist so any time he makes on stages will be easy to claw back in the TTs. But i agree, he did look comfortable again yesterday. Saunier Duval are looking very strong at the moment.

Someone who has quietly been impressing without getting much attention is Christian Vandevelde. He's stuck with the Evans crowd and looked fairly comfortable. I understand he's a climber so might we see an Alpine attack or two from him? He's less than a minute off the lead.
