LCD Soundsystem

A bit sad that, esp given that James Murphy has said his fave gig venue is Glasgow Barrowlands because of the great reception and enthusiasm of the fans they always get there.
Even worse if it was because of the band whose name I can't even bring myself to write!

but look at the mud and vast expanses of water in the pic. That's a good turnout for biblical downpout conditions.

Off to see them tomorrow night in Glasgow. Outdoor gig & weather is going to be ace. Shit Robot & Young Fathers supporting. Going to the after party too.

Saw them last summer at a festival somewhere... maybe all points east?

Phenomenal.. the most unlikely rock star ever, but the place was bouncing... in a good way... kids, old rockers, teenagers... i didn't actually know they were a band, i thought it was just him, having heard the records. but no, he's got an amazing band....

I never quite knew what this song was really going on about but apparently he lived in London for a bit... and had to address his accent, from both americans and brits. i know others in the same boat.

Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, I don't know, I don't know, oh, where to begin
We are North Americans
And for those of you who still think we're from England
We're not, no
We pit our blades and all trains
'Til we think we might die, far from North America
Where the buildings are old
And you might have lots of mines, uh-huh, uh, uh
I hate the feeling when you're lookin' at me that way
'Cause we're North Americans
But if we act all shy, it'll make it okay
Makes it go away
Oh, I don't know, I don't know, oh, where to begin
Well, we're North Americans
But in the end, make the same mistakes all over again
Come on, North America
oh, oh, oh, oh
We are North American scum
(Ah-ah) oh, oh, oh, oh
We're from North America
oh, oh, oh, oh
We are North American scum
(Ah-ah) oh, oh, oh, oh
We are North American
New York's the greatest if you get someone to pay the rent
Wah-hoo, North America
And it's the furthest you can live from the government
Uh-huh, huh
Some proud American Christians might disagree
Here in North America
But New York's the only place would keep them off the streets
Ooh, ooh
Now, we can't have parties like in Spain where they go all night
Shut down in North America
Or like Berlin where they go another night, alright
Uh-huh, uh-huh
You see, I love this place that I've grown to know
Alright, North America
And yeah, I know you wouldn't touch us with a ten-foot pole
'Cause we're North Americans
oh, oh, oh, oh
We are North American scum
(Ah-ah) oh, oh, oh, oh
We are North Americans
oh, oh, oh, oh
We are North American scum
(Ah-ah) oh, oh, oh, oh
We love North America
take me back to states, man
North American scum
(Ah-ah) where we can be in any one of a million new bands
North America
where the DJ gigs aren't as fun
Here in North American scum
(Ah-ah) but don't blame the Canadians
Look out, North America

They are incredible. To my eternal shame, I heard them early and thought 'who are these Americans trying to sound like The Fall...' and dismissed them. Have made up for that since.

I never really heard the Fall thing till now. But you can hear it here in their early stuff

Yeah, James Murphy did say that The Fall were his Beatles. They're mine too. I now really love his transparent references to his influences - that's part of LCD Soundsystem's thing - but at the time it seemed to break my maxim that Kraftwerk and The Fall were two bands it was fine to be influenced by but in no way should you try to sound like them.

I honestly always thought it was just him doing everything. But that festival last year... I think the best live band I've seen since Radiohead. I know those are two totally different bands but bands where you just stand still and watch them work together.

I've never seen the Fall, all 400 members of them. Any good live?

I saw The Fall 7 or 8 times over a 15 year period. It was roughly a 50/50 split on whether they were incredible or a total car crash. Always entertaining either way.

I’m seeing LCD Soundsystem at Brixton in June and cannot wait

I saw The Fall once and it was their last ever show. Mark E Smith was a wreck but a tight band. Must have been great back in the day.

you just lose yourself in that music... very envious... do you know whos opening for them?

Yeah, Fall gigs were nearly always good, just depended on MES's mood/alcohol/drugs intake that evening whether they were good in a conventional sense. I'm aware that like a lot of Fall fans I may have Stockholm Syndrome.
