LCD Soundsystem

You're right. People can listen to whatever they want. But I think to some extent, but not entirely, that music culture is one of diminishing returns. Think how music smashed its way through the twentieth century - new styles of music, new ways of going out and partying constantly emerging, the young at the vanguard in rock, punk, acid house.

Now, dance music culture, rock music culture, hip hop culture are so mature, and the artists and the audience getting older and older. There's a case for it all being ripped up and started again by kids with fresh canvasses.

If you see what I mean.

That's why you should embrace the newness. Download a mix. Listen to it. Delete it. Download another one. It's wonderful. It's constantly changing. Don't resist disposability. It's great.

Hehe. I liked this one. His voice seems to have been lifted from the singer of The Modern Lovers. It can't be a coincidence that he references them.

LCD is new music. Electronic music is now as recycled and old as Little Richard was to kids in the 80s. It's only because you're a decrepit middle-aged nostalgic that it seems to you that you're there at the front of the revolution.
I don't believe that at all! It's all recycling to a certain degree and I am way behind when it comes to new music. I only listen to Rinse FM for new stuff and they're well establishment now.

Tekno or indie/band dance. Which one is more stagnant. both haven't evolved since 1995.
The thing about LCD Soundsystem is that they did evolve indie/band dance music, by plundering the sound of 80s post-disco/pre-house/new wave dance music that, when they started, was all but forgotten. Of course since then that whole sound has been rediscovered to the point that it sounds old hat again...

The indie crowd seem to be on a late 90s/00s trance revival these days based on the facebook event invites I get.

I might be receptive to it if scary terrifying trance existed.

was thinking more about Ibiza Rocks, but both really.

Well, yes, they are. Take a look at IR website. Already got a trip booked to Ibiza this year, but considering now booking a second, just for this. IR is a great venue and relatively intimate. It will be an awesome show. :)

I don't know if I'd describe it as intimate. Small yes. Also hellish.

That bad? I've been there only once for a band I have no interest in (Biffy Clyro), yet I enjoyed it - maybe coz two pints of vodka and monster are about as good as any illegal drug. :D

I just found the (DJ) set they played at the Sonar Festival in 2003, which was the first time I stumbled across them:

Listening back now it sounds kind of obvious with shonky mixing, but at the time (and in the state I was in) it sounded really fresh hearing hip hop and Donna Summer and Depeche Mode and Hardfloor all in the same set.

When we got back to the UK we saw LCD Soundsystem were playing down the road from us, so we went along and dropped pills ready to relive our Barcelona experience in a local club. Only we found it was a gig, with a band playing, to about 20 muso blokes sipping pints checking out this new act. I've never stood out more obviously, running around with a big smile on my face and dancing like a raver, but they were a great live act.

Not so great turnout for their T In The Park gig

this has baffled a lot of my FB who rated them as the best gig at Glastonbury a fortnight ago ... weird

They were up against the Red Hot Chilli Turds. Tbh, Scots people don't have the best taste in music. Few of my friends knew who lcd are when i mentioned i was seeing them at Ibiza Rocks, and it was in Scotland Oasis broke.. Actually, not sure many of the Ibiza Rocks crowd were familiar with them - you can obviously book the hotel before the bands are announced, giving you access to the gigs. The band were great, but atmosphere flat (also down to the selfie/filming mob).

A bit sad that, esp given that James Murphy has said his fave gig venue is Glasgow Barrowlands because of the great reception and enthusiasm of the fans they always get there.
Even worse if it was because of the band whose name I can't even bring myself to write!

Weren't they supposed to have broken up? I swear that was the conclusion of Shut Up And Play The Hits, complete with a cringe scene of a fan crying at the end of their 'final' gig. Over LCD Soundsystem FFS :D

I bet he feels a tit now they got back together so soon.

Yeah, they should have prob left it a bit longer before re-forming, but good bands are thin on the ground these days.

Spotifying the new album. Sounding pretty awesome on first listen, when even I was expecting an 'in it for the money' type thing.
