LCD Soundsystem - what a load of bollocks

My contention is that the vast majority of albums in all genres and all eras have loads of self indulgent crap on them, not just 'dance' music currently. I won't deny the accusations of hyperbole though. I always overstate my case. :) I think dance albums are kinda missing the point.

But weren't people saying something like 'at last a proper album. Just like they used to make' as if their was some kind of golden age of the album?

People used to set out to make proper albums, in a pre-iPod age. Sometimes they succeeded... Few people try now, which is what LCD Soundsystem have tried to do more notable

Fuck me, I didn't actually believe that anyone actually genuinely liked the LCD Soundsystem.

Wishy-washy dance light drivel. Fashionable, but a load of anodyne bumph nonetheless.

very well put - 'cept i'd have said 'lite' not light :D

OK, so I've persevered with this, have had both albums on the pod and been listening since this thread started...and my opinion hasn't changed. There's nothing actually new here. Aiming to make a 'proper' album isn't new, it's the kind of thing guaranteed to get lots of music journos excited; same as being a punk and electronic at the same time.

I give it either another album or year before LCDS are being roundly slagged off as deriviative by the music press.

So hang on, I'm confused - is LCDS weak indie shit, or weak techno/house?

I reckon it's alright, FWIW - Murphy gave us The Rapture, so I can forgive him his indulgences
