Indeed. I don't mind being considered a 'real conspiracy theorist', i'm just not the version that is touted about on this website.

After all, to my way of thinking, it seems more credible that those in power will abuse that power than accidentally and monumentally fuck up all the time.

And without any mainstream media investigations we're left pretty much to our own thinking, although the internet has some good stuff if you can find it amongst the garbage.

And in any case, we do know definitively that obl was working with the cia at one time. Robin Cook knew a lot about the world and felt able to talk again after leaving his political position. After all, get into politics, and telling the truth is the first casualty.

If you have a credibility problem with the idea the CIA mishandled OBL and his buddies, take a look at their history of mishandling people from Marcos to Noriega, covert ops gone spectacularly badly wrong and other such stuff. Plus, you have to take into account the mentality of the kind of guys who would think that someone like OBL would remain a tame operative - despite his Saudi connections, they probably viewed him as a raggie they could keep well under the thumb...given that view does it seem a tad more likely that it was fuck-up, not design?

Epicurus, that's what I've heard, Al-Quaida literally means 'the base', and originally was a database belonging to the CIA.

I heard Nafeez Ahmed speak about this very question last Sunday. The question is somewhat obscured by the fact that the word 'base' in Arabic has many different meanings, one for example being 'toilet seat'.
