Last Night's Grand Designs (recycled tyres and wood)

I suspect the cost of the project will be substantially mitigated by our eco-warriors seemingly acute business acumen.

They were pretty crafty weren't they? Getting people to work for nowt is one thing but making them pay for their food as well is incredibly cheeky. I'd have told them to get fucked if they asked me to do that.

I've always wanted to build a planet-friendly house.

In principle I should be in a position to do that in 10 years' time .. though at 60 I may well be ready to settle for a French farmhouse and a ready supply of firewood ...

Can't say we particularly liked the end result. And there was a lot of "Ahhhh!! Hippies!" </Cartman> in the house during it. But good on them for trying something different, and they weren't half as smug as I thought they'd be.

That circular bed was absolutely *naff*, mind you.

Excellent - though the source of labour was a bit iffy ...

Food for thought ... though with the French leaving ready-made solid old buildings lying around all over the place, it's hard to imagine finding the energy ....

seems to me thats how this sort of house is done though - there's been several projects around here where you swap learning knowledge for a few hours labour building straw houses etc.

I really liked the concept but the final shape wasn't what I'd do. I have several book on building houses like that and I think there's nicer ways of doing it.

It was that, but other stuff as well that caused bells to ring for me. Lots of emphasis on the tyres but no mention of the eath moving machines that presumably created the site and back-filled it after, mention of using rain water like it hasn't been the only option in deeply rural areas for millenia, were there solar panels . . . I suspect our Kev has this fellers number from early on.

I did wonder how well this sort of building technology actually translates from an arid desert to soggy Brittany ...
