Last ever series of ER

Love this thread - just the few words bring the image of the scene straight to mind. I love the early ER, mid-ER, disappointed with the last bit of ER, but still watch, every week. Romano, what a vile character that I absolutely loved, would have liked to see more of what went on in his private life. Mark Green, John Carter, those early ER were just great. Was it the first episode ever that Carol tried to commit suicide - you saw her go through a whole day, pocket some pills, then go home to off herself. It was gripping stuff. I've shed tears over characters, I've fallen off my chair at parts of storylines - oh YES the helicopter and Romano!! - Morris and all those kids that he had "fathered". Morris and the green facepack. Well written characters is the key.

Bit cartoony at the beginning of last night's episode :D

(had me laughing for ages though!)

Jesus, how fucking good was last night's show?

Best camera work and transitions since that one Tarantino directed, great story, the final farewell of Mark Greene, and Angela Bassett gets to be human.

Romano felt kind of shoe-horned in, though, and Kerri Weaver looked about 30 years older than she should have done - she's not aged well since she left the series.

And Jerry  best character ever - one of my favourite episodes was the one where he set off a rocket launcher at the desk and totalled an ambulance. :D

I caught it last night and cried my eyes out :o That was proper ER.

And yes, I do love Morris as well (not in that way) - great character transition over the seasons from annoying geeky bellend to stand-up geeky hero.

Lovely post AnnT. Im totally with you, I have real a nostalgia and emotional investment in ER as well :)

I Sky plussed the season but was too sad about it ending to watch any :(

Well I finally watched the first 2 episodes and Im destroyed :(

Massive frog in my throat for Greg from the beginning because I knew it was coming :( I cried in the end!

I cried for Morris too, my Glorious Ginger Prince! He's going to be lost without Greg.

I *loved* seeing Ray! :) Like MayK I thought his storyline came to an abrupt and deeply unsatisfactory end and so it was so good to see him. Him and Neela made me so sad.

Seeing the new interns was weird; they're the same age John Carter in the first season. Which makes Neela a 4th yr resident, the same as Doctor Benton/ Mark Green?? Freaky, because they seemed so much older at the time and she still seems so young.

Can someone tell me what was going on with Carter in tonight's episode? I missed all but the last 10 minutes - why was he back and why was he on a drip looking resigned at the end?

Just watched it on 40D...I'm thinking kidney diaylsis. Reckon there might be a sad story about Kim (his wife) too.

Aye, it's the way he was replying to people about how Kem was, it was if they'd split up... and that did look dialysis - has he come back to die?

How many are left? I don't want it to end.

I think we're up to about Ep 16/17 or so? So not very many left - 23 (or is it 26?) in a season, I think.

(Edit: Last night was Ep 325, last ever one is 331, so that's only six left! :( Carter is in the next three and also the last one, so maybe he dies at the end? Ooh, and George Clooney is in Ep 328 in three weeks time, as are Benton and Carol Hathaway!)

I reckon Carter has some weird tropical African illness.

Where are you getting this info from?

Yay, Benton, wouldn't be right if he wasn't in it for a bit... it'll be at Carter's funeral though eh? I'm convinced he'll die. What about Weaver? She hasn't been popped back either.

Wikipedia, Cast of ER.

Weaver comes back in the final ep too, along with Susan Lewis and Corday. You might be right about Carter.

Eriq La Salle directed last week's episode, apparently.

Last night was rubbish, IMO - really dragged, and the dialogue in the airport was execrable. Hopefully the final two episodes (is it going to be another double-episode next week?) will pull it back up again.

Nice article. Really looking forward to tonight and next week; hopefully the lack of anything decent on Channel 4's multitude of channels will mean that they'll do with ER what they're doing with Friends and we'll get endless repeats of earlier series on More4 or E4 in the evenings.

I finished this a couple of weeks back and have been waiting for More4 to catch up so we could all have a chat.

I found I couldnt write without posting spoilers. :)

This final season vindicated my original love for the show and its characters. Abby and her tribulations were the worst things ever to happen to the show. She was soap rather than drama and I was relieved that she and the Croat were dumped out of the season really early on.

Hold your horses for one more week Melinda ;)

So how many times do you think you'll say "Oh my God, I'd completely forgotten about him/her!" during the next hour, then? :D
